Would You Spend the Night Here?

At 4308 Franklin Boulevard in Cleveland stands Franklin Castle, a towering Victorian mansion that has been surrounded by ghost stories for generations.

Built in the 1880s for German immigrant Hannes Tiedemann and his family, the house has accumulated an unusual history. Several members of the Tiedemann family passed away during the years they lived there, and later owners and visitors reported unexplained footsteps, voices, apparitions and other strange activity inside the mansion.

Over time, those stories helped give Franklin Castle a reputation as one of Ohio’s best-known reportedly haunted houses.

But separating the documented history from the legends that developed around the property isn't always easy and some of the stories repeated about Franklin Castle have never been proven.

We took a closer look at the history of 4308 Franklin Boulevard, the people who lived there and how a Cleveland mansion became associated with more than a century of ghost stories.

Ok - - Years ago, I was in the Altoona/State College area for business and had a full day to myself and decided I would take a drive and "get lost". I found myself in the middle of Central PA and just enjoyed the drive... from out of nowhere, this beautiful mansion appeared in the trees. Something was different about this place — it felt different. I paused when I saw a couple cars in the driveway and thought, "Whenever am I going to be back here?!"

I parked out front and slowly walked up to the front door... I honestly was a little creeped out... I hadn't seen anyone on the roads for about an hour, and I was buried in the woods of Central PA — leaving the feeling a bit ominous. I walked up to the front door and knocked (I took this picture and emailed it to my wife — JUST in case I didn't make it home — LoL 🤣) Nobody answered the door and I drove away. As soon as I got back to my hotel in State College, I dove into Google and discovered that this place was the Ravenwood Manor Haunted Attraction (Hegarty Mansion) - I was in awe. The house and surrounding area was haunting and beautiful.

I only wish I had been around long enough to pay a proper visit.
