silly horror movies that know exactly how stupid they are (affectionate) part 2 🎬

these are the horror comedies that commit so hard to the bit they loop back around to genuinely great. if you grew up renting Tremors and Killer Klowns on VHS, this one’s for you.

1. Tucker and Dale vs. Evil (2010)
2. Tremors (1990)
3. Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
4. Psycho Goreman (2020)

tell me your favorite dumb-on-purpose horror movie in the comments, part 3 is coming.

cryptid horror gets written off as campy bigfoot romance or cheesy creature features, but these five books are genuinely terrifying:

1. Into the Drowning Deep – Mira Grant
2. The Only Good Indians – Stephen Graham Jones
3. Devolution – Max Brooks
4. The Terror – Dan Simmons
5. The Hunger – Alma Katsu

which one’s going on your TBR? drop your own cryptid horror recs below, I’m always looking for more. welcome to the crypt, kittens.

underrated horror movies that feel like dark fairy tales. if you’re the kind of horror lover who wants folklore, witches, and enchanted forests instead of jump scares, save this list.

1. november — a strange and beautiful estonian fairy tale where witches, spirits, werewolves, and enchanted creatures wander through a snowy black-and-white dream world
2. the hallow — a family moves into an ancient irish forest where old myths and terrifying creatures still live
3. the company of wolves — a surreal retelling of little red riding hood where fairy tales become dark, dreamy, and dangerous
4. the lure — a musical horror fairy tale about two mermaid sisters who join a nightclub and discover the dangers of the human world

which magical nightmare are you adding to your watchlist? welcome to the crypt, kittens.

two of these were actual bestsellers in the 70s. one even became a tony curtis movie. the other two never left the small press underground. all four have basically disappeared from the conversation, and if you grew up seeing creepy paperbacks on a relative’s bookshelf, at least one of these covers is going to look familiar.

1. the manitou by graham masterton (1976)
2. the house next door by anne rivers siddons (1978)
3. every shallow cut by tom piccirilli (2011)
4. dead girl blues by david sodergren (2020)

these books deserved better. go give it to them. and tell me the forgotten horror novel you remember from the paperback rack, i want to hear it.

welcome to the crypt, kittens.
