I’ll be real. 29 was rough. And as cliche as it is, I wouldn’t have gotten through it without my friends. Never in my life have I felt this loved, and so overwhelmed by the reciprocity of our joy. This is also a PSA that I’m bad at taking pictures and need to get more current snapshots. Anyhow… indulge me in the comments.

The thing they don’t tell you about disability is that you have to change your definition of strength. Can my body propel me through life as a trained dancer anymore? No. There is no future where I can return to 8 dance classes a week and hours long recitals. But this body has held me through surgeries, traumas, and illnesses. It has taught me that my spirit can be just as goddamn relentless as pain can be. There is strength in that, too.

and I took a trip down to Provincetown for their trans week celebration and I am genuinely overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. It was a day of wandering, laughter, and the kindness of strangers. So many wonderful experiences crammed into one day— did you know they have a replica boat IN THEIR LIBRARY?!

Special shout-out out to Francesco Lovascio di Santis of — a local artist who gave us a tour of the work they so clearly pour their heart into. Cesco was not only generous in terms of time, but also donated work to sell at an upcoming fundraiser I’m helping to plan (we’ll chat about that later). I have shed several tears at the sheer kindness expressed.

And of course an extra shout out to Eli. I am so glad we exchanged rants about crab rangoons and sweet potatoes when I was first dipping my toe into the Boston poetry community. Thank you for always helping me lean into adventure ♥️

I’ll be honest. The last few months have been the hardest I’ve had in a long time. But still, I’m here. For the chosen family I have cocooned myself with. For poetry. For the sky looking like fire. For the leaves turning. For new episodes of silly shows. For the next conversation that’ll remind me why I’ve stayed. For sunrise, and sunrise again.

In typical Alex fashion, I took a single picture this weekend… but what a weekend it was! NorthBeast 2025 has come to a close and I am on cloud 9. Despite working on the project for a few years, I was nervous about the prospect of being festival director this year. I had all this want, all this yearning for the weekend to help people come together and grow. Any attempt would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of our team. Our co-tournament managers Keaton Howl and Jesse Parent. Our volunteer coordinator Sophia Fortunato. Our outreach coordinator Maria Zaki. Our graphics and social media coordinator Jay Kemp. This team showed so much heart. Thank you all for making this weekend magical. And of course, every facilitator, poet, volunteer, attendee left their mark on the festival. Your energy made this experience so beautiful. I could go on forever about how full my heart is, but I will spare you the continued overflow of emotion. Wishing I had more words for thank you. I love this community. Thanks for pushing me to be better.
