#TuesdayTip Write, Edit, Read
Every day set aside time to write. Even when you don't feel like it. Even if it's just a sentence or paragraph.
Every day take some time to edit what you've already written. Use an editing app to help you point out grammatical errors and suggestions to improve your writing.
Read every day. Go back to the start of your manuscript and begin to reread what you've written. Make sure your storyline is cohesive. Also, read books by other authors to strengthen your storytelling skills.
If you checked out my blog, 5 Reasons Indie Authors Should Revisit Earlier Works, I talk about how I had no clue what I was doing when I decided to publish my first books. It was a learning curb in every way including book covers.
I saw an IG Reels where a girl showed her journey from an "ugly duckling" with braces to a beautiful college freshman. She received millions of likes. Unfortunately, others attempted the same video with less than enthusiastic responses. #Ouch
Anyway, I liked the concept and decided to do it for my book "Love...Like Snow in Florida." I recently started my author page on IG. If you're on IG, the handle is @TracyLDarity_theWriter
If you haven't read Love...Like Snow in Florida, grab your copy today.
It's Ella's 32nd birthday, and she loves Karaoke even though she can't sing. Her friends plan her a Karaoke party, nonetheless. Now, for me, the fun in Karaoke is going to a bar having drinks while watching random strangers sing and cheering on my brave friends. In RTW, they go to a place that rents out private rooms for Karaoke parties (with no food and, I guess, bar service). #Boring 🤔🤦🏾♀️
Needless to say, the party was a bust, but for more reasons than that bad business model.
Of course, Ella is rethinking life as she grows a year older. She has a press interview where she runs into Brian, aka Mr. Whiskey 🍆. The two have a friendly exchange, and she doesn't hang their failed hookup over his head. Ella is pushed to the end of the line-up because that's where online blogs belong, while Brian has a favorable spot and reception since he's with a reputable news outlet.
FF: We have a scene with the four ladies at an indoor pool (at an upscale hotel -hell IDK🙆🏾♀️) having a random conversation about the state of black women. Ella can't shake the conversation with the lady she interviewed about egg freezing. They're talking so loud that the people around them are listening and joining in on their convo.
In a contrasting scene, Ola (Whitney's fiance) and Jason (Renee's soon-to-be-ex) are at a sports bar. It's a typical guy's night out. In walks Alexander who is Ella's true love. Ola and another guy??? invite Alexander and Jason to the Karaoke party, although neither would be welcomed. We have some filler scenes with Whitney and Ola. He is wayyy too forgiving, and she too quickly forgot about her random hookup that will come back to haunt her. Matthew and Sondi seem to have gotten over her inserting herself in his daughter's affairs. They take a walk together and discuss their relationship and the potential career ramifications if people learn they are dating.
It's time for the party. Barb (Erika Alexander) and Ella are the first to arrive and Barb starts drinking and singing.🎈🎉 The others drift in and try as they might, but this was a boring azz party. Barb sneaks out, and the others take to the 🎤. Not even community peen guy showing up and causing Whitney to have a near-death of her engagement nano-second experience could save this night.
As Ella is having a drunken Karaoke moment singing Alanis Morissette's You Oughta Know (aka Did you forget about me Mr. Duplicity). The two end up leaving together and going to a friend's bar and having the heart-to-heart they so desperately needed food and a cupcake with a birthday candle. 🧁
Happy Birthday Ella 🥂 #Yawn
Maybe if this show was an hour they could make the scenes more in-depth and meaningful. The topics they are trying to cover deserve more time to give what they are trying to serve. Thoughts?

I am so addicted to HBO's In Treatment. Season 4 has a black therapist in the name of #BlackLivesMatter (I guess 🙄). I can already see the writing is going to get on my nerves with the subliminals. But anyhoo, This girl is a senior in high school, and she starts talking about Barbie dolls and how she was too young to understand how sexist the dolls were and how much harm Barbie's figure causes to the psyche of little girls, and how when they created the black version it was just the same doll just with brown skin...
I used to love Barbie dolls and my parents bought me every new gadget, house, car, friend, etc. At no point did I ever want to be Barbie, look like Barbie, or think her figure was realistic. 🤦🏾♀️
Oh, one more thing, so she's a lesbian with a sex addiction and dating a freshman. The therapist asked her the age of the girl and she replied age ain't nothing but a number. So the therapist asked her did she know who wrote that song and the implications that go along with it. #Sigh, Of course, she was clueless but argued that they are both in high school so what difference does age make. 🙆🏾♀️

Jeffrey Boakye on finding "ballast in blackness".
In recent years, the number of books written by Black authors that cross my desk at the AJC has swelled. In part, it’s the result of the publishing industry reacting to current events.
The number of books by Black authors published by major publishing houses is historically very low. Except for February. Then a flurry of books about race, civil rights and Black leaders appear on the market just in time for Black History Month.

5 Reasons Indie Authors Should Revisit Their Earlier Works
Being an indie author provides flexibility. Updating your older books, changing book covers, making revisions, and more is easier. Plus, you can use the opportunity to gain new readers.
There was a time not too long ago when the term self-published author was frowned upon by readers and the publishing industry. Vanity presses were seen as a scam because they preyed on the hopes and dreams of would-be writers. The notion was, individuals would never have a chance of signing with the...
Finding the balance between being an entrepreneur and relying on family and friends for support is hard for some people. Click below for seven ways to balance business and personal relationships.
Becoming an entrepreneur requires finding a balance in our relationships. In the beginning, it's easy to rely heavily on family and friends to support our endeavors. What happens when lines become blurred and expectations are too high? in this article, learn how to manage those boundaries.
This is my last one...today. 🤷🏾♀️I hope you all are picking up what I'm putting down. Especially the entrepreneurs out there.
Sometimes our biggest struggles are internal. Sometimes people give up on us before we reach our full potential.
Australia is 16 hours ahead of us. Watching the #AustralianOpen live is a task. At 6:37 AM this morning, #NickKyrgios was facing match point in the 4th set. He was on the verge of imploding, something he's known for. I thought it was over for him and decided to turn off the TV and get some sleep before starting my day.
To my surprise, I logged on to IG this afternoon, and the first post on my Story timeline is Nick celebrating his win. He pulled off the ultimate comeback and won the match 5-7 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-2) 6-4.
Things could have gone differently if the chair umpire had given him his 3rd conduct code violation. Instead, she indulged him because, despite his bad behavior, he was right at that moment.
How many times should we have been out of the game but someone showed us favor? Or gave us a second or third chance to get it right?
There are many talented people that fail due to missed opportunities, and many that succeed with limited possibilities. Whichever side we end up on, know that we have to dig deep to get to where we want to be. Some people will never see our worth and never believe in us. Others simply won't stick around to see if we're the real deal or not. But for those that do, be humble and grateful and make the best of the grace they offer. Things can literally change in an instant. We just have to be present and available.
I'm sure when #FrancesTiafoe saw the draw for the #AustralianOpen and realized if he made it past round one there was a 99.9% chance he'd face world #1 #NovakDjokovic in the second round.
He could have said, damn, what's the point. Why travel to the other side of the world just to get sent packing after my second match. He could just show up and not even try, but he didn't.
Instead, he walked out on the court with his head high and his confidence higher. He was present and in the moment every game. The experts said he would go out in straight sets and there's nothing he can do about it...he simply ended up on the wrong side of the draw. Djokovic has never lost before the 4th round in a grand slam.
No, Tiafoe didn't win, but he challenged #TheJoker, kept him on the court for over 3 hours in the sweltering heat. Probably set a career record of 23 aces in a match. Made it to four sets that ended with a final score of 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-7(2), 3-6.
The lesson, even the world #1s had to lose matches to achieve greatness. It's in those losses that the greatest lessons are learned. In the end, no one reaches the pinnacle of their career if they never show up...that's physically and mentally.
Venus Williams, whose 40yo came into the #AustralianOpen with a taped knee but played an awesome first-round match. In the second round, she struggled from the start. Down 1-5, she turned her ankle which impacted the knee. Still, she didn't quit. She knew she couldn't win but the fighter in her said play on. She lost the match 1-5, 0-6, but still came out the winner for her fans.
Many people reading this are saying, I would have just quit, what was the point, she could have caused permanent damage, etc. The truth is, some people justify quitting, while other people justify why quitting isn't an option. That's often the difference between following your passion and settling for mediocracy.
#CicelyTyson was such an iconic actress. May never see again someone with her diverse talent and work ethic. She will surely be missed.

The literary world has lost a great writer. IT has been confirmed that Eric Jerome Dickey has passed following a lengthy illness. Here is a throwback blog I wrote in 2012 about my experience at the 1997 Essence Festival where I was first introduced to him.
Attending the 1997 Essence Music Festival motivated me to begin my career as a writer. There is so much more to Essence than concerts and parting. It's a party with a purpose.
The writing world lost some great talent in 2020, but the literary world wasn't the only space left with a void. #celebrity

Hopefully, you have watched the finale for Power II Ghost. If not, stop right here. This spinoff wasn’t great and it wasn’t bad. I had more hope for it in the beginning but soon realized it was the same writers and directors. In true Power fashion, a whole lot of BS takes place in a matter of weeks.
The premise of the show seemed to be a journey from a regular man to a ruthless killer. Tariq is in college (a prestigious one) having taken his GED, and gotten a recommendation from his father’s business partner Simon. He’s in a canonical studies program and each week we were (re)introduced to a literary classic that set the theme for the episode. 📚
It was fitting that in episode 9 the book was Frankenstein, and in the finale, the class was canceled.
Let’s get into this rushed episode that sets us up for the next book of Power (Tommy).
1. How did Carrie go from being a prosecutor to a professor who sleeps with her students and then discards them like a used condom? Poor Jabari. Zeke, you’re next. She is a mess and I have no clue in what universe the police would allow professors to interview students in a murder case. 🤦🏾♀️
2. This case…OMG! So, Tasha is on trial and Tariq is on the witness stand. He’s decked out in a reddish burgundy suit and represented by Tamika. While being questioned by Saxe he unloads and tells everything about Saxe, Riley, and Maclean…despite objections and the judge telling him to answer the questions only. Thank goodness Ott was there to save everyone. 🙆🏾♀️
3. I can’t say it enough, Tasha is the worst mother ever with Monet coming in at a close second. She agrees to testify against Tommy in exchange for her freedom and witness protection. I was really praying, instead of reporters, there was a shooter on the other side of the gate as she was being released. The CO seems assured Tasha will be back and I tend to agree. 🤷🏾♀️😎
4. Tommy is back! Yes, he’s gunning for Tasha as he should be. Tasha, who before this season seems to have never heard of the Tejada's decides her first order of business is to go visit Monet. Well, Tommy was on her heels and shoots up the place, but only kills the bodyguard. 🙄
5. With things moving quickly, Saxe, who has 24 hours to resign stages one more attempt to save his name. Using Tasha, he sets up a dragnet to capture Tommy. 🤦🏾♀️In what felt like a déjà vu moment, Tommy appears to die in a 🔥🔥 crash. With all options seemingly off the table, he packs up his office. Maclean drops by to offer him a job but he respectfully declines.
6. Kane is still running through the city buck wild. 🤬After disposing of Ramirez's body, he thinks it is a good idea to go tell Dru, who is recovering from his gunshot wound. Meanwhile, Dru’s boo has decided to share that Dru, Zeke’s cousin, stopped G2G from shooting Zeke in the knee. Carre signals him that isn’t the case and he must have been drunk. 🤔
7. Jabari overhears a conversation with Carrie and Zeke and figures everything out about Tariq. For some crazy-ass reason, he tells Tariq he’s figured out that he’s behind the drugs on campus and the guy killed in the pool. Wait for it… if Tariq will help him write his book, he’ll pay him his advance and keep the secret. 🙆🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️💵💵💵💵
8. Tariq goes to meet Jabari to get the money but Kane's crazy azz show’s up. Tariq asks him if that’s the gun he used to kill Ramirez and Kane is like, yeah. Sooooo, as a show of loyalty, Kane gives Tariq the gun who in turn kills Jabari as he begs for his life. 😲😥😭
9. Later that night Tariq and Tasha meet up at Ghost’s gravesite. Tasha tells Tariq that she’s decided to leave Yasmine behind. Tariq is bummed because he’s decided not to run away with his mom but turn her into the feds. 😂😂Turns out they aren’t alone. Just as Tommy is about to take his shot, the feds arrive and whisk Tasha into witness protection.🤷🏾♀️
10. Tommy confronts Tariq and they lament over the man that Ghost was to them both. The dialog was strategically worded and left many thinking Ghost isn’t dead. Lord knows if anyone can resurrect him from the dead it's Steven Ott. Regardless, Tommy is still going to kill Tasha. Monet appears and disarms Tommy. 🙄She decides to let him live for Tariq’s sake. Tommy leaves and Tariq gives Monet the money he got from Jabari. Diana and Dru drive up and Tariq leaves with his new family.
