To all Academy Patrons:

As a result of Hurricane Irma, the Academy of Performance Arts had two ceiling cave-ins and three studios showing huge wet spots where rainwater collected on the ceiling tiles...from holes in the roof...all disasters waiting to happen.
Some of you know of our two year-long ongoing battle to get the Landlord to fix the roof. It has leaked since day #1 of construction in November of 2015 and his "patch it" solution does not work...we have now reached the end of our patience.

The Academy of Performance Arts is actively searching for a new residence and will remain CLOSED until one is found...

As of Thursday, 9/14, we are moving ALL of the equipment & furniture OUT of the Academy and into a storage facility. Because of the possible harm that could come from a ceiling collapse, and keeping the safety and well-being of all Academy Performers first and uppermost in our minds, Michelle and I have chosen to close the Academy for now.

We have spent so much of our money, our time and our deep-rooted passion for the arts to create a wonderful facility only to have a roof that is a danger to everyone under it ruin everything.

It pains us to have built a beautiful facility...only to have to walk away from it now because we can't fight this issue any longer.

We want to thank ALL of our Performers, their parents and all of our friends and family for your positive energy regarding the Academy.

Please know that as soon as we can find new financial support, like a phoenix rising from the flames...we will rise and all Academy classes will resume.

Today we are so grateful that we've come through Hurricane Irma with everyone safe and sound. No collateral damage, just a lot of preparation and nuisance time! Here's a lovely rendition of Golden Slumbers from our summer production 'Journey Around the World', sung by Vivian, music performed by her Dad, costume by her Mom. May we all enjoy Golden Slumbers tonight and be thankful for all our blessings.

Our Story

The Academy of Performance Arts was created in 2016 by Lu and Michelle. Our mission was to bring acting, art, music and dance to the beach communities so that students of all ages may learn and appreciate the arts. Our 5 studios located on St. Pete Beach were a safe and nurturing environment where so many actors, singers, musicians, dancers, artists and teachers from our community enjoyed their creativity. All involved were integral in the production of original plays & musicals, summer camps for kids, afternoon arts programs, dance events and music workshops. The Academy was impacted by Hurricane Irma in the fall of 2017 and due to severe roof leaks causing ceilings to collapse in every studio and was forced to close permanently at that facility. At this time, we do not have a permanent place to operate as we had before but we are actively looking for a space where we may continue sharing some of the performance arts. We will post updates as we go forward and hope to hold our very popular summer camps for kids and teen acting workshops somewhere in the local community, so stay tuned!

Looking for actors/readers (both male and female) of various ages to be part of the Bless Me Father reading on Sept 26th and 29th. There is a minimal commitment - a couple readings the week before and then the performances. The two performances will be staged at Studio @ 620 in St Pete.
