RockIn-Depth

RockIn-Depth RockIn-Depth is an online music facts and history publication produced by Media Shmedia Prod. : BROK Just recently I picked up a book.

This is a page dedicated to history and facts on rock n' roll music and related genres. Not a chronological history, but a page in which we bring to you posts on a variety of topics related to rock. The goal is to help further one's knowledge of rock n' roll music, and music history. As an audio recording engineer, a former teacher in the audio field, and a father of a 15 year old record collector

and music lover, I would like to expose people to artists that they might not realize were the main inspirational force behind some of the bands and music that they love. There is a lineage in rock music that at times is not clear, as well as a plethora of bands whose stories are not known. The Guiness "UK Hit Singles" tenth edition which lists every artist who have had songs on the UK charts from 1952 to 1995. Listed alphabetically by artist, song, and chart position. I have been going through it in order and have been finding both artists and songs that have inspired me to start this project.

On this day in 1998, Wendy O. Williams—the fearless frontwoman of the Plasmatics—passed away at the age of 48 in Storrs, Connecticut. 🕊️

A true original, Williams didn’t just perform… she detonated expectations. Chainsawing guitars, blowing up gear, firing shotguns onstage—her shows were chaos, danger, and pure punk rebellion rolled into one. And she did it all herself.

With her signature mohawk and unapologetic presence, she became one of the most extreme and unforgettable figures in rock history. At the height of her solo career, she earned a Grammy nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance in 1985—proof that beneath the shock was undeniable power.

There was no one like her. There never will be.

In 1980, Venom sent their raw, filthy slab of metal to EMI hoping for a record deal. The response? A short, brutally honest rejection letter that simply read:

“Dear Venom.
F**K OFF.
With Complements”

No feedback. No critique. Just two words that perfectly summed up how the industry felt about Venom’s unholy noise at the time.

Of course, history had the last laugh. That same band would go on to influence the entire extreme metal movement, from thrash to black metal, proving that sometimes the best badge of honour is a rejection letter.

🔥 Rejected by the establishment.
🔥 Worshipped by the underground.

Metal history is full of moments like this… and this one is legendary.
