For a thrilling Takeover Tuesday, TBBCA pARTner Chroma Studio founder and artist Kate Gausche takes us deep into two favorite processes that she uses to transform raw metal and materials into artwork. Kate shares "I typically start creating my pieces with large sheets of aluminum and steel, and copper in giant rolls. I then process my raw materials using either heat or through chemical reactions (sometimes both!). I use heat at nearly every stage of my work from cutting to annealing and of course welding. My CNC plasma table cuts the metal using the precision of a computer and reaches temperatures up to 40,000° F - four times hotter than the surface of the sun! The process of annealing involves heating metal almost to the point of melting to change it at the molecular level, allowing it to be shaped without losing its strength. Finally, I weld these processed pieces together to create sculptures, signage and artwork.
For my patinas, a proprietary blend of chemicals, substances and our lovely Tampa Bay sunshine is used to create a vast array of natural textures, colors and patterns. The pieces are influenced by the proximity to the Florida mangroves as the sun, rain and salt air combine with the chemical blends to bring out these beautiful teals, blues, and reds, sometimes taking weeks to reach their rich hues." Be sure to visit chroma studio online to see Kate's unique work and these processes in action!
We are excited to introduce TBBCA pARTner's Takeover Tuesday!
Hi, I’m Kate Gausche from Chroma Studio - Metal Art & Design. For the next several weeks we are thrilled to be participating in a “Takeover Tuesday” to share some of our experiences and processes of creating artwork.
Today Chroma Studio features two case studies of collaboration that show how including personalized art installations and logo-branded pieces in corporate spaces can not only enhance your space aesthetically, it can also reinforce your company’s culture to employees, guests and customers. From reducing stress to boosting productivity, we are all aware of the positive aspects of surrounding yourself with art - and the workplace is no exception!
These corporate art projects pictured involved real teamwork in the design process. For both Rising Tide Innovation Center and the Greater Tampa Realtors, we joined with another TBBCA pARTner Jerri Menaul and her team at My Favorite Art Place to offer art pieces that ranged in styles and materials and were uniquely designed for these very different businesses. Metal sculptures, billboard sized wall prints, custom acoustic panels, acrylic info displays, and even a lighting system to project logos onto the reception floor all made for cohesive designs that met the business’ needs, emphasized their branding and aligned with their strategic goals.
As pARTners of TBBCA, we experience first-hand how true it is that “the Arts are good for Business, and Business is good for the Arts”! Connecting businesses with the art community in Tampa Bay enhances the quality of life for all. During this unusually challenging year it’s more important than ever to support one another and work together. We are finding new and creative ways to collaborate with other businesses on commercial and residential artworks with the goal of contributing to a more inspiring, uplifting and art-filled Tampa Bay!
