Debra Mixon Holliday Art

Debra Mixon Holliday Art Debra Mixon Holliday is a printmaker and mixed media artist living and working in St. Augustine, FL. Her Gulf Coast and Southern roots deeply influence her work.

Debra is a life-long resident of of the Florida west coast with a few years during childhood spent in her mother’s home state of Louisiana. As a child, Debra had free reign to wander the woods and swamps surrounding her rural Louisiana home and, in Florida, her grandparents’ farm. In her work, Debra explores our relationships to nature, addressing themes related to boundaries, connections, sense o

f place, memory, and identity. In her current body of work, which she refers to as “swampscapes,” Debra invokes the tradition of the tapestry, suggesting a little woven vignette that reveals the beauty of nature as a system--all the pieces connecting together to form the whole. To create her images, Debra invokes the environment she knows and loves—organic, rich, and tangled— embracing the unkemptness of weeds, wild flowers, murky water, needle grass, and palmetto. Plying the backwaters that are essentially her own backyard, Debra raids a treasure chest of pattern, texture and form. Debra employs a variety of printmaking techniques, including monotype, relief,
and intaglio, enhanced with collage and drawing in graphite and colored pencil. After years in the corporate world, Debra honored a personal ambition to study art and graduated in May 2009 earning a BA with a visual arts emphasis from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. Debra and her husband own and operate nativesuntours.com, a charter tour company located in Homosassa, Florida. In this small, north central Gulf Coast community, Debra continues with learning, exploring, and pursuing her art.
