Here we go! Who grew up with Cross and Sword? If you were in the cast, in the audience, lived close enough to hear the nightly “boomies”, or even the local kids that sneaked in to witness Florida’s Offical State Play, l would love to hear your stories or see your old photographs.
We lost dad, (Tom Rahner) this past Christmas…he was a huge presence from the very beginning of Cross and Sword even before the first performance in 1965 marking the 400th anniversary of the founding of St Augustine. He oversaw the building of the amphitheater and was general manager. He then began directing and also acting in the production. For many years he and my mom, Jean Rahner, played major roles together while my brother, Philip Rahner, and I spent our childhood growing up on the stage with them. What an incredible experience for anyone who was involved.

Sorry for the delay…I wanted to let our Cross and Sword family know about Tom Rahner’s passing this last Christmas. He was involved with C&S from the very beginning in 1965 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the founding of St Augustine. He over saw the building of the Amphitheater, became General Manager, director and actor…sometimes both at once! 😉 I hope you will join me in posting your favorite memories of Tom. He will be missed. 💙
