Hundreds of pipers and drummers. A packed grandstand. And this is the moment the finalists step out.

Performing the Highland Laddie as a Salute to the Chief of the Caledonian Club of San Francisco, these dancers have made it to the big stage at the Scottish Gatherings and Games.

This isn’t just the competition platform anymore. This is the grandstand show, in front of everyone.

Every dancer you see here started somewhere. For those who make it to the final, this is what they’re working toward.

With the 160th Games coming up this year, that stage is waiting again.

Enter the Caledonian Club of San Francisco Highland Dance Competition, and you might find yourself right here… dancing in front of the Massed Bands and making history!

We are so proud to share that Naomi will be performing the role of Swanhilda in Northern California Ballet’s upcoming production of Coppélia! Leah will also be appearing in this wonderful production.

It is always exciting to see our dancers shine in all areas of dance, and we know they will both be amazing on stage. Wishing them a fantastic performance weekend!

If you’ve noticed more traditional-style dancing lately, you’re not alone
This is Village Maid, performed with live bagpipes by Liz Tubbs and Andy Bodemeijer of the City of Sacramento Pipe Band
It has a bit of that familiar feel people recognize from shows like Bridgerton, but it’s something you can actually see and be part of locally
For many of our dancers, it started with seeing it once and thinking “could I try that?”
And the answer is yes!

Imagine being in the room when the bagpipes start and a dancer steps out to perform
This clip was taken at Sacramento City College in the Cultural Awareness Center
With live music from Riley Groeschel of the City of Sacramento Pipe Band
For many people, it’s their first time seeing something like this in person
And for a lot of our dancers, that first moment is what made them want to try
If you have a child who might enjoy something a little different, they’re always welcome to start

Congratulations to all of our dancers who competed at the Norcal Celtic Festival!

We are so proud of every dancer who stepped on stage and gave their best effort. Competition days represent months of hard work in class, and it shows in every performance.

Full results are included in the images below.

A special congratulations to those who placed, and to everyone who achieved personal goals, improved technique, or experienced their first competition day. Every step forward matters in Highland dancing. 🥇🏆

Walk into the room and it’s live bagpipes and Sailors’ Hornpipe ⚓️

Featuring Andy Bodemeijer of the City of Sacramento Pipe Band

It’s a little different, a little loud, and a lot of fun
And yes, beginners are always welcome

Congratulations to Sarah and Z for taking 1st place in the staff division at Valley High School’s “Valley’s Got Talent”!

Sarah, a geography teacher at Valley, teamed up with Z to perform the Highland Fling and had the audience cheering from start to finish.

We love seeing Highland dancing show up in local schools and introduce people to something they may not have seen before.
