Misconceptions about Making Money with YouTube (MienTV Specifically)
SUMMARY -- The producers of MienTV (www.youtube.com/mientv) do not get money for videos appearing on MienTV. You will see no advertisements on 99% of the videos on MienTV. We have chosen to not turn on advertisements on MienTV's YouTube channel because our goal is to promote our culture, not to make money.
THE LONG STORY -- There are rumors/misunderstandings that all YouTubers get paid (a lot of money) for videos they publish on YouTube. THAT IS NOT TRUE. In fact, some (most) don't get paid anything at all.
Google/YouTube explains how YouTubers CAN make money here:

Here's a summary:
- Advertising revenue: Get ad revenue from display, overlay, and video ads.
- Channel memberships: Your members make recurring monthly payments in exchange for special perks that you offer.
- Merchandise sales: Your fans can browse and buy official branded merchandise that’s showcased on your watch pages.
- Super Chat & Super Stickers: Your fans pay to get their messages highlighted in chat streams.
- YouTube Premium Revenue: Get part of a YouTube Premium subscriber’s subscription fee when they watch your content.
MienTV doesn't do any of those.
In fact, you will see no advertisements with 99% of the videos on MienTV. If you see advertising in a MienTV video, it is usually because the music in the video is being monetized by the artists/producers of music that appear in the video. YouTube shares money from those advertisements with the musicians, NOT MienTV. An example is this video here: https://youtu.be/xYNSGfRkjwk
You will see advertisements associated with that video. That is because the music producers of the songs in that video have asked Google to put advertisements on whenever their music appear anywhere on YouTube. Money from those advertisements go to Google (YouTube) and the producers of the Thai and Lao music in that video. MienTV does not get a penny from those advertisements.
MienTV has intentionally chosen to not monetize videos on MienTV's YouTube channel. Making money is not our goal. Our goal is to promote our culture. By making our videos ad-free, we hope to get to a wider audience. We also hope that performers and others appearing in our videos can rest assured that we are not exploiting them or their art form for financial gain. We are merely exploiting them for the richness of their contributions to our culture. 🙂
BOTTOM LINE -- When you appear on a video on MienTV, we are not using you to make money for ourselves. But we are using you to promote our culture. We hope that is okay with you.
