This past week was my worst fear come true.

My husband & best friend, Kris, went into the ER with chest pain after a paintball tournament. We thought it was nothing since it had happened before and usually went away with electrolytes. But this time, the pain stayed—and he also had jaw and back pain.

When we first got to the ER, his EKG and other tests all came back normal. The doctor suspected a back injury but ordered bloodwork just in case. That’s when things took a turn—his cardiac enzymes came back extremely high. A normal level is 20 or less—his was 600.

Here’s one of the crazy parts: we actually left the hospital after being told it was most likely a back injury and that we could check labs on our phone. Kris was feeling better after eating, so we stopped just a couple minutes away from the hospital for dinner. We were about to head home—but then our Tesla suddenly decided to update. At 8 p.m., when it’s always scheduled for midnight. We were stuck for 45 minutes waiting. During that time, the hospital called and urged us to get back immediately. That delay kept us from going home—it was like a tiny miracle in itself.

When we returned, more tests showed Kris’s enzymes had skyrocketed to over 22,000. The doctor confirmed he was having a heart attack. He was already at 80% blockage. Had we gone home instead of being just minutes away, we don’t know what would have happened.

Kris was rushed to the cath lab, where they inserted a cardiac catheter through his wrist. He ended up needing one stent placed in his LAD coronary artery—the artery often called the “widow maker.” If we had waited any longer, I don’t know what the outcome would have been. Honestly, I thank God he played paintball, because without pushing his body that day, we may never have known—and he could have died in his sleep.

Today, he’s doing well and has his energy back. We are so grateful for the incredible doctors, nurses, and modern medicine that saved his life 🙏🤍
