The Capeverdean Dictionary Set...teal (2015) in Kriolu with English translations and orange (2025) in English with Kriolu translations. Each holds history, capturing old and new words in the Kriolu language. Each contains some variations, as languages shift depending on influences. Each contains character, culture and is a contribution to the staples of the essence of Cabo Verde.

Pastel di midju: made with corn flour and sweet potatoes, filled with tuna fish.

Maminhas: named after the appearance of a mama's breast, a more modern way of making kuskus in an individual serving size.

Today, July 31st, is National Batuku Day!
Oji, 31 di Julhu, é Dia Nasional di Batuku!

This song asks, "Nha fla'n Nha Dunda, kuze ki Batuku...[tell me Nha Dunda what is Batuku...] and Nha Dunda replies "N ka sabe é kuze. N nasé nu axta'l, N ta mori nu ta dexa'l. [I don't know what it is. I was born and found it, I will die and leave it.]"

Batuku has a long history within the culture of Cabo Verde and at one time was forbidden. It is a dance that brought our people together, building community through call and response, rhythms and story telling. Today we honor Batuku.
