Fiber Traditions talk this Saturday at 10 a.m. ! Justin Wexler, noted scholar of Lenape history and traditions, will present a free illustrated talk on November 22 at 10 a.m. about the cultures of Native peoples in the North East, including their fiber traditions. The talk will take place at the Catskill Watershed Corporation auditorium at 669 County Route 38 in Arkville. This will be the final presentation associated with our exhibit "Indigenous Delaware County: Lenape and Mohawk Fiber Traditions." After the talk, the audience will be invited to visit the exhibit, just up the road in the Erpf Gallery of the Catskill Center, 43355 State Highway 28, Arkville. Opening soon! "Indigenous Delaware County: Lenape and Mohawk Fiber Traditions" runs from October 24- December 7 at the Erpf Gallery at the Catskill Center in Arkville. On Saturday, November 1, Wilma Cook Zumpano ((Akwesasne Mohawk) will lead a workshop in raised bead embroidery. The workshop will take place at the Erp Gallery from 11 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. The following weekend Marilyn Isaacs will lead two separate but identical workshops on traditional fingerweaving. Participants have a choice of Saturday, November 8 from 2-4 p.m., or Sunday, November 9 from 1-3 p.m. For more information and to register, please contact [email protected] or call (607) 238-9162.

Come and check out our exciting new exhibit! Indigenous Delaware County: Lenape and Mohawk Fiber Traditions opens on Friday, October, 24 and runs through Sunday, December 7 at the Erpf Gallery at the Catskill Center. The Erpf Gallery is located at 43355 NY-28, Arkville, NY, 12406, and is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibit will feature handwoven baskets by Theresa Johnson (Ontario Lenape), raised bead embroidery by Wilma Cook Zumpano (AkwesasneMohawk), and fingerwoven sashes by Marilyn Isaacs (Tuscarora/Mohawk). Join us for a presentation on November 22 by Justin Wexler on the history of fiber traditions among the Lenape and other nations. Immerse yourself in hands-on workshops the first two weekends in November with Wilma Cook Zumpano and Marilyn Isaacs. More details to come. Another square dance! On Saturday, September 20 the Tremperskill Boys will play from 7-10 p.m. at the Margaretville Fire Hall, 77 Church Street, Margaretville, N.Y. Suggested donation is $10, with children 12 and under free. There will also be door prizes and a 50/50 drawing. No partner is needed and all dances will be taught. Hope to see you there!

Just a reminder that our next square dance will be on Saturday, August 30 from 7-10 p.m. at the Hamden Town Pavilion. The pavilion is located at 20 Covert Hollow Road, Hamden, NY, 13782. If it becomes too cold to be outdoors, the dance will move to the Hamden Town Hall adjacent to the pavilion. No partner needed and all dances will be taught. Suggested donation is $10 with children 12 and under free. Hope to see you there!
