Hey my plant-y people! Spring is coming (slowly, I know), but for those of you moon-driven babies starting seedlings for the year, this may be of interest to you…

My friend Isaac has launched a new book (link below 👇) on planting with the moon cycles. Hopefully, we’ll see him (and his lovely and equally knowledgeable wife, AC!) here this summer for some information sharing once the new greenhouse space is up and running.

The golf course will open again this season - and, as a new nonprofit, we’ll be adding some information sharing community events for those interested in sharing and/or attending. Stay tuned!

That’s a wrap!

The wind came in last night and made the decision for us - it’s wild out there!

SO! We are officially closed for the 2025 season.

It’s certainly become Fall, quickly!

The bees are snacking on the last of the flowers, a few painted lady butterflies are joining them, and we are working feverishly to get this giant greenhouse up before winter so we are ready for spring!

In the meantime, the port a potty is gone but the balls and clubs are still available for use. Be aware, leaves are falling faster than we can leaf blow them off, so there’s an added level of difficulty 😉

We’ll stay open until we aren’t, stay tuned, have fun, enjoy the holiday weekend! ⛳️ 🐝

We’re coming to a close… the course is a visual representation of the change of seasons.

The last veggies, fruits, and herbs are ready to be gleaned. Likely the last monarch caterpillar is munching hungrily. The leaves are falling faster than we could keep them off the greens. The birds are hurriedly collecting seeds.

So your games will be even moreso a bit around nature for the next week. We still ask you not to leave empty cans and trash on there. The port a potty leaves the last day of the month so that likely signals the end of the season!

With the end of this season brings on another season for Cardinal Cove. The filing for registering nonprofit “Cardinal Cove AgriGarden” went out today while the greenhouse goes up!

New hatchling monarchs have been spotted! 2 yesterday and still more caterpillars readying themselves (here sharing a snack alongside a milkweed tiger moth).

Keep an eye if you’re playing, keep them safe!

Open daily 8 til dark for as long as we can this month.

Fall is bearing down on us! This is the time of year where the course is looking unkempt, so here is a “picture says a thousand words” post. All our feathered friends (including new Toms) are prepping for winter. They will use the gardens for food and - bonus for us - will spread seeds for new baby plants, pre fertilized 😉💩

We’ll be open til we aren’t, watch for monarchs hatching and heading south!

Dear Community - I am requesting your help!

As I mentioned in a post recently, I am finishing my last semester for my bachelors degree in leadership. My senior capstone project is to turn Cardinal Cove into a nonprofit that can continue to exist and grow for the community into the future.

As for your help, I am looking for photos and stories throughout your years playing at this golf course to include in my final community powerpoint presentation project. Your fond memories, pictures, documenting the growth of your families here, and any historical tidbits would be most welcome!

GOT KIDS?!

Our resident monarchs have begun their metamorphosis, just like our little humans do every year.

It’s the last day before school for most kiddos so from now until close - ALL KIDS PLAY FREE!

Enjoy the beautiful weather and see if you can spot a monarch laying her eggs or a caterpillar getting ready to cocoon!

The milkweed is doing its job - being a nursery and cafeteria for future monarchs!

Eight little babies will head to The Riley School for small humans to learn about the life cycle and conservation of these beautiful butterflies - and be released for their trip south for the winter!

Late Summer? Early Fall? of Season 5 is starting to show the intent of this place… food, medicine, natives plants for the wildlife.

And to go along with this growth - an announcement of more growth!

It’s official! As some of you may know, I am finishing up my degree this semester and for my capstone, I have been approved to document the process of turning Cardinal Cove into a non-profit as my final project.

This change will allow us access to programs and funds to continue to upkeep, grow, and connect our community. We hope to offer opportunities of space for health, food, and healing education and experiences.

Stay tuned for more information as we go! Until then, open daily until the Maine weather makes us not!

Follow me down this rabbit hole, yeah?

Today was harvest day for the hops. While cutting, I snipped off a sumac branch. When I tossed it into the woods, I caught the light green out of place and discovered… A FERAL HOPS BINE! Aka, one I didn’t plant.

The hops berries look different than the cultivated Cascades I have growing. Fluffier, larger, more open. The leaves look slightly different. Now, it seems that seed hops aren’t the same as their parent plant so it could be that one of our little wild friends planted it, nature did, or since we’ve stopped cutting and don’t spray, possibly an old humulus lupulus variety?

For now, it was a fun surprise to find gorgeous ripe feral hops at harvest time, and to feel like we’re creating the space for the plants to pick their own spots.

The plant is marked, I’ll watch it in spring and see if cultivars can be made from the new shoots!
