How can you help keep Welsh culture alive in North America, AND get a chance to win this Lovespoon collaboration between Dave Western and myself - 2 years and thousands of miles in the making??? Come to the North American Festival of Wales TODAY at the Hyatt regency in Rochester, and get your chance(s) to win for $5 ea, or 5 chances for $20.
As always, 100% of ticket sales go to the WNAA to benefit NAFOW programming, and we hope our donation will inspire lots of benefit! The prize drawing will be TONIGHT (Saturday night), during the NAFOW Grand Concert. Here it is, basking in the morning light. :) Diolch yn fawr to Dave Western for inviting me into another of these collaborative adventures, and to the WNAA for their continued great work organizing another amazing festival! Cymru am byth!

Come out and explore the Short North at the gallery hop tonight, and stop in to Studios on High Gallery to see Mikelle's & my show!

Laura Jenkins Gorun and Mikelle Hickman-Romine will be in the gallery tonight for the Hop. Their collaborative work is the Crafting Enchantment show, and they are both thrilled to talk with people about their process and concepts. Enjoy the arts in the Short North tonight!

Please forgive the prolonged social media silence... I've been struggling to regain my focus with some very complex Lovespoons, while navigating through myriad unrelated obstacles and distractions. Apparently, sometimes the artistic process demands a bit of a detour to help find that focus. Recently, I've been collaborating with one of my brilliant Studios on High Gallery-mates: Mikelle Hickman-Romine. Our collaborative show - "Crafting Enchantment" - will be featured in the gallery throughout the month of May. Be sure to stop in and see what happens when a jewelry artist and a wood carver collaborate! Studios on High Gallery, 686 North High St., Columbus. www.studiosonhigh.com

Ok. Lost almost a month being tremendously ill, but now I'm happily getting back to work (and playing a huge game of catch-up). At the moment, just making a mess with sandpaper while my car is being serviced. A little windy, but overall, a gorgeous fall day!

Amidst everything else for the past few years, I've had a project brewing for Upper Arlington's Concourse Gallery - they wanted to preserve the legacy of the local ash trees, which are being destroyed by the Emerald Ash Borer, so they asked local artists to create some art from logs they cut to our specifications from trees that were dying. Can you guess what I made? The UA Concourse Gallery is at 3600 Tremont Rd.. There are several interesting and beautiful pieces. Stop in if you can!

DId you know that Dave Western ( David Western Lovespoons) will also be at the North American Festival of Wales this September 3-6? It's a good thing, too, because, as it turns out, it's tough to build up lovespoon inventory when you're helping to organize a national festival! But thankfully, I finally twisted Dave's arm enough to get him to come! YAY! It might be because he's excited about this spoon we began years ago, and are now finishing up to donate as a raffle prize at this year's NAFOW. This will be the first of our collaborations that we will both get to see in person when it's complete! If you want a chance to win it, come to the Hyatt Regency Columbus - for the North American Festival of Wales, beginning Thurs. Sept 3. The prize draw will take place DURING the Grand Concert on Saturday night, Sept. 5, featuring Cor y Penrhyn with guest soloist, Gwawr Edwards (all coming to us from Wales). Need not be present to win - but you do need to be there to get a ticket! I'm holding back on my carving images, but here's the design - I don't know what you think of it, but Dave & I are excited - we think, of all we've done together, we feel like we've done this one "right." Fun fun fun!!!

Just in case any SINGERS or POETS happen to see this - a great competition opportunity is coming to Columbus this Labor Day weekend.....the Eisteddfod competitions at the North American Festival of Wales (NAFOW) offers cash prizes and even a scholarship to compete in Wales! Don't miss it!!!

P.S. I know I've fallen off the social-media planet while I've been helping with this year's NAFOW planning, and madly carving to keep up with commissions and some inventory at Studios on High Gallery (you'll even find me carving there some days!), - I hope to return from my social media hiatus after getting through this year! Thanks for bearing with me! And hope to see lots of you in Columbus this September!
