Next crucial step complete.
It’s imperative to wash the now cured, penetrating epoxy to remove the residue from the surface.
The oily, waxy, or greasy film that sometimes appears on the surface of curing epoxy is called amine blush. It is a byproduct of the chemical curing process and is caused by the hardener reacting with moisture and carbon dioxide in the air.
This needs to be done before sanding and applying the halcyon varnish which is the main protective finish.
After the several coats of halcyon has cured for a few days, I’ll apply the one shot sign painters paint and then the hand forged, powder coated hardware.
Thank you to BFL Metal Craft Nh for the brackets!! And to SPEC Powder Coating for the powder coat finish!
Exterior wooden signs are labor intensive.
This piece is one that hopefully will hang at the corner in Alton Bay for a very, very long time, and I am honored to be able to create this for Foster's Tavern.
