Second Annual Nature in the City: a One-Day Art + Music Expo to Benefit our Community and Raise Environmental Awareness! Nature in the City, a unique, one-day art and music festival at the
City of Rochester Public Market will be held on Friday, July 1 from 2-10PM. This event, held in tandem with First Friday, celebrates the human connection to the natural world with a local flair, featuring the be

autiful original artwork of over 50 local creators, an entire day of live music, live dancers, resources from environmental justice organizations, plus an array of food and beverage vendors. This new Market event made its debut in 2021 by Rochester native Hayley Dayis Van Dusen and Naples native Alexander Fals with the intention to bridge urban and rural communities on shared values of the arts and nature conservation. We can't wait to see all our vendor's amazing art this afternoon!! That includes these remarkable pieces from N.E. Lodico (.icon).

In her own words, "My work comments on the human experience in reference to past and present consumerism and media. My body of work falls somewhere between Surrealism and Pop art, and appropriates and nods to iconic imagery, products, and concepts. I reference the past to emphasize the tactics of pop culture, advertisements, and big corporations.Often depicting foods, products, advertisements, and various forms of entertainment, art, and media, my work explores the societal effects of their unavoidable consumption. Subsequently, a lot of my work also manages to comment on the environment, global warming, and the general flippancy of corporations towards the earth and its resources.

Another aspect of consumerism I explore is the psychological effects of consuming media, ideas, and products. I use these themes to talk about the femine experience in terms of cultural narrative, expectation, and objectification of women. There is a certain sense of satire, irony, and general comical relief in my work to further point out the absurdity of many aspects of consumerism.  I also have a romanticized and whimsical use of color throughout all of my work, which further illustrates the false, and manufactured nature of a lot of my subject matter. By referencing influences of the past and present, I question the nature of what it means and implies to consume both physically and mentally."
