🐾 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM MOORE EXOTIC ANIMAL RANCH 🐾
Hello, Moore Exotic Animal Ranch family!
My name is Sara Hunt. Many of you may not know me, but I am the Executive Director of Hunt’s Exotics Foundation.. Kristin is not only a close personal friend of mine but also a member of our nonprofit's Board of Directors.

I'm reaching out today because something happened yesterday that none of us were prepared for, and I want to share what's happening behind the scenes at Moore Exotic Animal Ranch.
❤️ Yesterday, Kristin underwent emergency surgery following a potentially life-threatening medical complication.

What started as a trip to the hospital turned into something far more serious than anyone anticipated.
During surgery, doctors discovered two hernias. One was a previous surgical repair that had failed. The second was much more concerning.
Kristin's small intestines had moved into the hernia, creating a dangerous situation that threatened their blood supply.

Had this not been discovered and corrected when it was, portions of her intestines could have lost their blood supply, causing the tissue to die. This could have resulted in the loss of part of her intestines and potentially life-threatening complications.
Her intestines were already extremely swollen and inflamed.

Thankfully, her surgeon was able to reposition her intestines and stomach, repair the hernias, and secure an area of the tissue responsible for supporting her intestines and their blood supply.
Despite the severity of the situation, none of her intestinal tissue had died.

Her surgeon was also able to complete the procedure laparoscopically, avoiding a much more invasive open abdominal surgery.
However, the extent of the repairs means Kristin is facing a painful and potentially lengthy recovery.
She remains hospitalized, where doctors are also addressing severe dehydration, an elevated heart rate, and concerns regarding her nutritional health.

To put it simply, yesterday was a very close call, and we are incredibly grateful that Kristin received the medical intervention she needed.

🐾 SO WHAT HAPPENS TO MOORE EXOTIC ANIMAL RANCH?

For those of us who work with exotic animals, there really is no such thing as taking a day off.
Animals don't understand medical emergencies.
They don't know their caretaker is hospitalized.
They still need their diets prepared, their enclosures cleaned, their enrichment provided, and their daily care routines maintained.

And when you dedicate your life to caring for animals, one of the hardest things imaginable is being physically unable to care for them yourself.
That's where my team and I come in.
Hunt's Exotics Foundation has stepped in to help oversee daily operations and animal care at Moore Exotic Animal Ranch.

Our priority is ensuring that every animal continues receiving the care it needs while Kristin recovers.
The animals are being cared for. Their routines are continuing. And Kristin does not have to face this alone.

Unfortunately, this means that all tours at Moore Exotic Animal Ranch are temporarily suspended while Kristin recovers.

❤️ AND WE CAN'T FORGET ABOUT JAKE.

Kristin's fiancé, Jake Moore , has also been working incredibly hard to keep everything moving.
Not only is he continuing to work full-time and supporting Kristin through this medical emergency, but he is also handling the nighttime care of the ranch's nocturnal animals.

While my team and I are helping coordinate daytime animal care and daily operations, Jake is making sure the animals who are active at night continue receiving the attention and care they need.
That means he's balancing his regular job, nighttime animal responsibilities, and the emotional stress of having the woman he loves hospitalized.
He's doing everything he can, but even the strongest people need support sometimes.

Our goal is to help take some of that weight off his shoulders so he can focus on Kristin, continue caring for the animals, and hopefully find a little time to take care of himself, too.
This isn't just about helping Kristin. It's about supporting Jake, their family, and the animals they have dedicated so much of their lives to caring for.

💚 HERE IS WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP.
Something many people don't realize about operating an exotic animal facility is that the expenses don't stop when the person running it becomes sick.
There is no paid medical leave.
There is no pause button on animal care.
And while Kristin is facing a difficult recovery and medical expenses, the ranch still has animals depending on it every single day.
Their food still needs to be purchased.
Their supplies still need to be replenished.
Their daily care must continue.
Hunt's Exotics Foundation has established a dedicated fund to help ensure the animals at Moore Exotic Animal Ranch continue receiving the resources they need throughout Kristin's recovery.

🐾 MOORE EXOTIC ANIMAL RANCH ANIMAL CARE FUND

Contributions to this designated fund will be earmarked specifically for the animals' diets, supplies, and care needs at Moore Exotic Animal Ranch.

💚 YOUR DONATION MAY BE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE!

The Moore Exotic Animal Ranch Animal Care Fund is being administered by Hunt's Exotics Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Whether it's $5, $10, $25, or simply sharing this post, every bit of support helps us continue caring for these animals while Kristin focuses on getting better.

🎟️ WHAT ABOUT FUTURE TOURS?

We will also be offering gift certificates toward future experiences at Moore Exotic Animal Ranch.
Purchasing a gift certificate is another wonderful way to support Kristin, Jake, and the ranch financially during this difficult time while having an animal experience to look forward to once tours resume.
More information about gift certificates will be available soon.

❤️ ONE FINAL THOUGHT...

People like Kristin and Jake don't get into this work because it's easy.
They do it because they genuinely love the animals in their care.
And sometimes, the people who spend their lives taking care of everyone else need someone to take care of them.
Right now, Kristin needs to heal.
Jake needs support.
And they both need to know that the animals they love are going to be okay.
That's exactly what we're working to make happen.
Please keep Kristin and Jake in your thoughts as they navigate the coming weeks.
Thank you for supporting them, Moore Exotic Animal Ranch, and the incredible animals who depend on all of us.

🐢❤️ FOUND TORTOISE – HELP US FIND HIS FAMILY! ❤️🐢

This handsome guy was found wandering in traffic near Boyette Road and Rhodine Road in Riverview, FL!

He appears healthy and well cared for, which makes us believe he may be someone’s beloved pet. We would love nothing more than to reunite him with his family! ❤️

He is safe and being well cared for at Moore Exotic Animal Ranch. We are NOT looking for a new home for him at this time. Our priority is finding his rightful owners.

🔎 Proof of ownership will be required.

Please SHARE this post, especially with anyone in the Riverview area! Someone out there may be missing this big guy, and with your help, we can get him home! 🐢💚

🐢 The Great Sulcata Tortoise Adventure! 🐢

Never a dull moment around here! Today, Sarah from Hunt’s Exotics and I teamed up for a little tortoise search and recovery mission!

Sulcata tortoises are the third-largest species of tortoise in the world, and while they may look slow, don’t let those little legs fool you! 😂 These guys are incredibly strong, surprisingly fast when they want to be, and excellent diggers. Without a properly secured enclosure, they can be quite the escape artists!

When we arrived, this big guy was no longer wandering down the middle of the road. He had disappeared into a massive field, making our job a whole lot harder! But we weren’t giving up that easily! After plenty of searching, we finally found him! 🐢💚

Thankfully, he appears healthy and well cared for, which makes us believe someone is probably missing their big buddy!

Now our next adventure begins… finding this handsome guy’s owners! ❤️

Who needs sleep when you have nocturnal animals? 😂🦝🌙

With so many nocturnal residents here at Moore Exotic Animal Ranch, a normal sleep schedule just isn’t in the cards! Between late-night feedings, socialization, enrichment, and playtime with little ones like this baby genet, my schedule revolves around theirs. ❤️

Around here, animal care doesn’t stop when the sun goes down… and apparently, neither do I! 🥱🐾

Meet our newest little arrivals! 🐾❤️

Since we don’t post nearly as much as we probably should, there’s a lot that happens here that people never hear about unless they visit us in person. One of those things is how often we open our doors to owner-surrendered animals who simply need somewhere to go.

Over the years, we’ve welcomed foxes, prairie dogs, raccoons, reptiles, rabbits, ferrets, and more. We never judge someone for the reason they need to surrender an animal. Life circumstances change, and when we have the space and resources, we do our best to help.

These two sweet ferrets are our newest arrivals, and they won’t have to worry about another move—they’ll be staying right here with us for the rest of their lives. ❤️ We’re excited for everyone to meet them!

Eleanore, our Southern Tamandua (also known as the Lesser Ant Eater) has been learning how to participate in what we call our “animal-led” hands-on encounters, and she’s doing so well!

So, what does animal-led mean? It means exactly what it sounds like: the animal gets a choice. We never want an encounter to be about forcing an animal to be touched, held, or interact simply because a guest is there. Instead, Eleanore is taught that she can approach, participate, take treats, receive attention, or move away whenever she chooses.

Training this way helps build trust and allows her to become comfortable with new people and experiences at her own pace. Some days she may be extra social, while other days she may decide she’s had enough—and we respect that.

Our goal is for hands-on encounters to be a positive experience for our guests and for the animals involved. We’re so proud of the progress Eleanore is making! ❤️

Can you spot the gecko? 👀🌿

Our mossy leaf-tailed gecko takes camouflage VERY seriously. 😂 These incredible geckos are designed to blend right into bark, moss, and leaves—making “Where’s the gecko?” a whole new level of difficult!

Nature really outdid itself with this one. 🦎💚

Spots are filling! I WILL have to close registration Tuesday (if there’s spots) so I can have a concrete plan…

Meet one of our handsome veiled chameleons! 💚🦎

Those incredible colors aren’t just for show! Veiled chameleons can change their coloration depending on things like mood, temperature, light, and communication with other chameleons. And those amazing eyes can move independently, allowing them to look in two different directions at once! 👀

He’s definitely one of those animals you have to stop and admire—the closer you look, the more incredible he gets. 💚
