Thought I’d try and explain why we’ve only ordered 500 of our latest backpack the 27L Shorthaul.
We’re still very much a small company, there’s Tom and me who founded it and Charlie and James who help is run the day to day operations.
We don’t have any investors, and it’s really not that we couldn’t get any it’s more we wan’t to run the company in a certain way. We don’t wan’t to be in a position where growth deadlines and yearly mandatory scale starts making the decisions for us.
For us we really see this like travel, although there’s nothing wrong with a packed weekend itinerary, seeing everything quickly and ticking the planned boxes. But the trips you really remember usually aren’t like that. They’re slower, more open and they leave space for things to happen and that’s how we wan’t to run SALKAN.
So the long answer is this, we order in small quantities, from the profits from the previous batch, we’re simply making what we can, selling it and learning from it every time. Because of this, certain colours or stock does run out from time to time.
I hope that gives some context into the way we work and consider it a warning for The Shorthaul, 250 in green and 250 in black.
As always, any questions - fire away!
Will.
