FATAL TREK: An 18-year-old hiker’s death in 109-degree heat in Grand Canyon highlights a frequent summer danger. "Heat stroke sets in when heat builds up faster than the body can shed it," an emergency physician said. (he did not treat the hiker and was not involved in the case).

"The brain begins to be injured, producing confusion, disorientation, loss of coordination, collapse and loss of consciousness."

The park says the inner canyon can be drastically hotter than the rim, with little shade and limited access to help — and the most grueling stretch comes when hikers are already depleted.

The weather looks promising for this event, but for some reason if it would start to rain, it won’t be canceled. We will be moving it across the street on South Broad and utilize the Methodist churches social hall so don’t let the rain stop you from coming!

Join us for this awesome day! We’re starting the day at 11 am through 3 pm with Overcoming Obstacles - come and challenge your physical abilities! Ages 5 up through adults! Music will start at 3 and run through 9 pm and all the while there will be vendors and food for everyone! Grab a friend and come join the fun and the awesome music on our Court House lawn in beautiful downtown Ridgway!!
The QR code or link below gives you the access for the waiver that needs to be filled out to participate in the Obstacle courses. Forms will also be available to fill out the day of the event. Everyone has to have a completed and signed form and under 18 MUST have a signed waiver by their PARRNT OR GUARDIAN or otherwise you will not be able to participate.
There is NO fee for any of the days activities. 😊
