Happy National Dog Day to the four-legged family members who somehow end up becoming some of my favorite subjects to paint. 🐾🎨

Big dogs, little dogs, serious dogs, goofy dogs, wedding dogs, beloved old friends… every one of them has their own personality, and that’s always the part I try hardest to capture.

There’s just something special about turning a favorite photo of a pet into artwork you can keep long after the muddy paws, couch cuddles, and daily chaos become memories.

Here are a few of the pups I’ve had the privilege of painting over the years. 🤍

I didn’t really tell anyone this was happening, but this morning I had the chance to join Austin on WJTV Live@9 and talk about my art, live wedding painting, and guest sketches- and even create a portrait on air!

There are a lot of versions of me that had to be left behind before I could become the artist and business owner I am now.

The girl who thought her people didn’t look realistic enough.
The girl who felt too out of practice to call herself an artist.
The girl who put art on the back burner for years.
The girl who thought motherhood and creative ambition had to compete.
The girl who thought selling art was something other people did.
The girl who believed handmade work had to compete with big-box store prices.

For a long time, art was something I loved- but not something I fully believed could become part of my everyday life.

Then I started again.

Not from zero.
From experience.
From motherhood.
From years of living, learning, creating, pausing, and coming back with a different perspective.

I’m still growing. Still learning. Still stretching myself.

But I’m really grateful I’m not all those girls anymore. 🤍

And if you’ve been sitting on something you used to love because you feel too rusty, too late, too busy, or too far behind- maybe you’re not starting over either.

Some moms are carrying the grocery list, the appointments, the laundry, the school things, the emotional temperature of the house… and somewhere in the middle of all that, trying to build something of their own too.

Running a small business as a mom can mean answering messages during nap time, working after bedtime, packing orders between errands, or squeezing creativity into whatever little pockets of time you can find.

A lot of it happens quietly. A lot of it goes unseen.

But those little things matter.

The work you’re doing in your home matters. The work you’re building with your hands matters. And the way you keep showing up for both matters more than you probably realize.

Send this to a mom who’s carrying a lot and still creating something beautiful with her life. 🤍
