Captured Ring Woodworking

Captured Ring Woodworking Woodworking items created by Dan Primavera My first creation was a coffee table, which still graces our family room. Then I discovered the lathe.

Back to Woodturning for Quarantine Sanity
Woodworking has been a hobby of mine since the late-1990’s when I joined a local woodworking club and started taking classes to make things for my home. Over the years, I went on to make everything from a jewelry chest for my wife to twin beds for my twin sons. Something about the process of taking a chunk of any irregular shaped piece of wood and spinning

and shaving it down to something beautiful and useful just amazed me. And it was a lot of fun! I made a variety of items: pens, keychains, wine bottle stoppers – and more. I even made a rattle for my baby boys by carving a few Captured Rings around a cylindrical handle, all out of a single piece of wood. And that was the inspiration of my company name! However, as sometimes happens, life and the joys of parenting stepped in, and my focus shifted to raising my twin sons with my wife and building our life together. Years later, in 2020, feeling the cabin fever and boredom that came with quarantine from the COVID-19 pandemic I decided to buy a lathe and get back into woodturning. I found the process of turning the wood very relaxing not to mention the satisfaction I get from creating something new in a variety of cool shapes and designs. I hope you like my creations. If you see something you like but would like it in a different color or wood, or even a different design, feel free to contact me. I love making custom, one-of-a-kind pieces. Use the pieces I have posted in my shop for inspiration, or let me know if you like something just the way it is and I can make you an identical piece, if I don’t have it already in stock. Thank you for visiting my page, and please visit my Etsy shop soon!

My most recent project is now complete, and I must say it has been one of the more intriguing endeavors I have undertaken. This sliding barn door is constructed from solid oak, measuring about 5.5’ wide and 6’ tall, and is hung on an 11’ long rail.

I noticed one of my cutting boards was looking dry so I applied some food grade mineral oil. It’s important to oil cutting boards on a regular basis to help keep them from cracking, discoloring or absorbing fluids from meat and produce. That can lead to bacteria to develop causing an unsanitary surface and fowl odors.

This is a real-time video of food grade mineral oil being absorbed into a small end grain cutting board.
