✨Ask your kid’s permission.✨
You’re going to cut, rearrange, and combine years of their artwork into something new, but remember: it’s their work.
Yes, you’re the one who’s been saving it, who wants to preserve it, and you’re probably the only one who even knows where it’s being stored. But it still belongs to your kid, and they should have a say in what happens to it.
Here’s how I would ask: “I’ve saved all your artwork in a bin, and I want to turn it into a piece we can hang on our walls and enjoy. What do you think?”
Ask what their favorite pieces are, where they want them placed, or maybe there’s something new they want to make for the collage.
Even if your kids are grown adults now: ask them too. It’s still their work and their childhood.
You’re not only preserving art, you’re honoring the person who made it. That’s a good place to start.
