Emotional 😭 ass post: More content coming soon.

The last 6 months has been incredible for us. The amount of work that we’ve accomplished is beyond great and I’m forever proud of us. This year was special…..like really special. 5 poets came together and not only made a team but became family 🖤🥹. We’re each other folks now, and nothing can change that lol.

After a hard fought week, out of 32 teams we’re ranked 14th in the nation. The goal was and IS final stage but I’m super proud of this family.🫶🏾🫶🏾

To : Thank you for being the coach/ Big brother we all needed. We’re super appreciative to have a coach that trusted us with our creative abilities and gave us space to exercise our personalities 🤣🤣🤣. We kept you entertained lol every practice. Lastly, thank you for being a leader that truly cared about the well being of his team.🙏🏾🙏🏾

To : we appreciate you for being the aunty 😂🤎🤎, for giving us history lessons on beat sampling (minds is still blown🤯🤯) 🤣🤣, and being the genius you are. Your ability to chop up poems is 😤😤…… you should teach a workshop on this. Lastly, thank you for bringing that fire 🔥 🔥 at Sofried. You showed us what a true vet does under pressure.

To : Thank you for being the mother/ big sister of this family 🤣🤣. Thank you for bringing a huge blanket of vulnerability that allowed us to show up more authentically and to own our stories with more authority. Thank you for making your duty to check in on us individually. We love you, not only for your writing, but for your heart as well.🫶🏾🫶🏾🫶🏾

The four poetry slam teams that represent Virginia NATIONALLY will battle for the BEST IN VA! This event is a fundraiser for the teams to get to this year’s national spoken-word competition in Pompano Beach, Florida June 12th to 16th! THIS IS A TICKETED EVENT!

This is a special fundraising event for our Virginia slam team to get to Southern Fried Poetry, Inc. in Pompano Beach FL

$25 advance tix and $45 at the door

Rules in a poetry slam:
-Poems must be your original work

-a draw for the order of the teams performances will happen before the slam starts

-Teams can send up performances from individual poets or multiple poets as a group. Group pieces and indie poems are scored the same.

-poems are scored by 5 judges on a scale of 0.0 to 10.0. the highest and lowest scores are dropped. The three remaining score are totaled giving a poet their score for that round. the highest score a poem can receive is a 30.

-poets get the maximum amount of 3 minutes and 10 seconds to perform. After that time ( 3:11 and on) poets get .5 deducted for every 10 seconds they go over.

-no props are allowed onstage. poets cannot gesture to clothing or personal items. poets may read from a page or device but do not make reference to the page or device because it will be considered a prop. violation of the prop rule will result in a 2 point deduction.
