🌀 Pinch Pots with the Monks 🌀
We’re so excited to welcome the visiting monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery to Richmond for this special Sacred Arts Tour workshop.

We’ll open and close with their beautiful Tibetan chants, then spend the rest of our time together slowing down with clay. We’ll make simple pinch pots side by side with the monks, connecting with each other, and letting the process be as meditative as the result. No experience needed.

More than half of your class fee goes straight to the monks to support their work bringing peace, healing, and cultural preservation to communities around the world.

🏺Fired pots ready for pickup at Sen Organic Market in about 3 weeks.

Ready to join? Head to bio for the registration link! See you there ✨

Friends! I have four spots available in a last minute try the wheel class this Tuesday at . Only $50 per person if I fill all of those spots ($60pp otherwise).

Something you should know about my teaching style—we *always* begin with 10mins of grounding and meditation work. Why? Because life is a lot and work is a lot and you can’t center unless you’re centered. We return to breath and create the space to hold this practice before moving on to the wheels. If you’re the kind of person who struggles to stop your mind from racing in a yoga class, this class might be for you!

Share with your friend who needs a little nervous system rinse to start the week.
DM to book your spot. See you there ✌️

Calling all artist friends! 🏺

I’m helping organize Richmond’s biggest art gala with and for the first time ever, we’re accepting ceramic and glass work alongside paintings and photography.

If you’ve met me or followed me for a while, you know my relationship to clay has been a deeply personal and healing journey. And it’s one that was made possible for me by privilege. I know there are so many others in our community who don’t have access to creativity and connection because of financial barriers.

If you’re an artist, I’m willing to bet you have your own testimony about how your art saved your life. I think there are more voices like ours out there.

If that resonates, I’d love to see your work in the gala.

50% of all art sales go directly to funding arts programming in Richmond—for women at the Goochland Correctional Center, veterans at the VA, adults living with dementia, and students at the Anna Julia Cooper School on the East End.

It’s a juried show, held at the . There’s no submission fee, you set your prices, and it’s a fair 50/50 split if your piece sells (most do in the $250–$500 range). Deadline to submit is July 15. You don’t have to attend to participate, but if you do, artists get a discounted ticket!

Comment GALA below and I’ll DM you the submission link.

Hope to see your work there. đź’›

🕊️ Migrating! About a month ago I packed up my whole studio into a moving pod and watched every little bit of my business get hoisted up onto a semitrailer 🤮 Nearly puked from anxiety!

About a year ago, Jon and I owned up to the reality that Arkansas was not going to be a long term fit for us. My Chesapeake heart missed salty marshes and tidal waters, and we both could no longer stomach the politics of the place. We set our sights back east and found a cozy little city on the James River to call home ❤️

The rest of the year I’ll be setting up my new studio (in our basement!) and finding our new balance. Arkansas friends, if the winds of your life blow you east, please know that you always have a warm bed and a meal waiting for you in Richmond 🫶

🔥 A tale of two firings, slow cool edition 🔥
All of these mugs were glazed the exact same way, but were fired differently. The mugs on the left were fired to cone 6 with a five minute hold, and then down fired 125°/hr to 1600°, at which point the kiln turned off and the kiln cooled naturally.

The mugs on the mugs on the right were fired to 2160°, and then slow cooled 50°/hr with 45min holds at 1700°, 1600°, and 1500°—a slight modification of the firing schedule from in Mastering Cone 6 Glazes by .britt1.

I love having the ability to manipulate my own firing schedules and play mad glaze scientist on my own backyard 👩‍🔬

Would you believe that I *barely* passed high school chemistry?! Now here I am twenty years later messing with boron levels, using a scientific scales, using a LAB BOOK to document my experiments? Who is she??

I suppose all of that is to say that the journey between art and science is non-linear but tends to intersect if you sink your teeth into it long enough :)

Come find Byrd and I back at it, slanging pots to the people, at . Because I’m unable to attend the rally at 10a tomorrow at Bentonville Square, I’ll be donating a portion of my sales tomorrow to them. If you do go, take a picture of yourself at the rally and I’ll give you 20% off your purchase! Because, all I really want for Mother’s Day is an assault weapons ban ✊

I’ve been working on these low-fire weirdos and finally pulled them out of the kiln this morning! I plan to use them for brush storage in the studio.

I’m really excited to begin offering a community firing service for local potters in NWA.

Drop-off Friday PM/Pick-up Sunday PM. $15/shelf. Slide for more deets ➡️

I believe that the arts should be accessible and offering low-cost firing services to artists who cannot afford to purchase or maintain their own kiln is my own way of bringing those beliefs into practice. First firing starts this weekend!
