A commission started months ago for a series of 10 cast bronze acorns was finally installed throughout the historic downtown of Danville, CA. These are a few of them. This was a fun project and a bit of a departure from my usual work- it brought back lots of memories of my time working in art bronze foundries.

The cast bronze acorns are nearly finished! The town of Danville, CA takes possession on the 17th. Metal chasing is close, mounting hardware installed, a small amount of metal work, sandblast and then patina. So close!

From proposal submission design to nearly finished there are many, many steps to a piece of public art becoming a finished and installed reality. This design will be a series of 10 cast bronze acorns installed throughout the historic downtown of The Town of Danville, CA. Getting close to the end, with final assembly and patina left to go. Exciting!

When casting hollow objects, we have to cut a plug out of the original wax. This plug gets cast along with the wax model and then welded back in. After all the chasing and metal work the welded in plug will be invisible. Just one of many steps to turn a 3d model into a cast bronze sculpture.
