Last year, we raised $70,476 for our participating artists during our Mutual Aid Art Auction!! This year, participating artists will still get 100% of the proceeds from the sale of their work. We are excited to launch our first-ever juried call-for-art process for this year’s auction. Interested artists can submit up to two pieces to be considered for the gala. VAE’s team will use the knowledge we have built over the past 39 art auctions to select a diverse array of artwork that will speak to the buyers who have loyally attended our galas over the years.

We understand that art auctions are not for every artist! Not participating in VAE’s annual art auction has no impact on how VAE will work, throughout the year, to help any individual artist. We just want to make sure that the artists who do participate in our auction are well taken care of and that their work is respected!

VAE hopes to use the large platform we have built with our annual gala to connect you with new clients and collectors. Read all the details below and, if you are interested, register by following the link in our bio.

The deadline to enter the call-for-art is January 20 11:59pm.

We are extremely excited to host our 2022 gala! After hosting a smashing party two years ago and a record-breaking Mutual Aid Art Auction that helped hundreds of artists make ends meet last year, we are looking forward to gathering our creative community to celebrate the arts and our new visionary leader, Kayla G. Coleman (@kaylagcoleman). This will be the community’s first large-scale opportunity to hear the vision our new Executive Director has for VAE, the arts, and our broader community!

Introducing VAE's new Executive Director: Kayla G. Coleman

The entire VAE Raleigh team is excited to announce that Kayla G. Coleman has been named our next Executive Director!

After an extensive national search, VAE has found a talented, visionary, and community-oriented leader in Kayla Coleman. Kayla comes to VAE from her role as the Deputy Director of Public Art for New York City where she has commissioned hundreds of site-specific projects in a variety of media by artists whose sensibilities reflect the diversity of New York City. Her experience as an arts leader also includes working as an independent curator, arts writer, and lecturer.

Her full arts administration background includes roles at the Studio Museum of Harlem, The Johnson Collection, White Box Art Space, BronxArtSpace, and MoMA PS1.

Kayla brings a wealth of fine art, community, and structural knowledge that will build on the work VAE has done over the past 41 years. We are excited to have such an accomplished leader taking the helm and begin working with our talented staff to continue VAE's leadership in the arts community.

"I am so excited to be joining the ranks at VAE and continuing the work started by my predecessor, Brandon Cordey. I'm looking forward to making Raleigh my home and diving head-first into such a dynamic and expanding community. VAE's core values strongly mirror my own in terms of arts, access, diversity, and socially-conscious community engagement. I am so honored to have been chosen to work with such an incredible board and staff that are active, engaged, and in-tune with progressive social change." - Kayla Coleman, Executive Director
