Keeping an eye on the competition. 👀
A Great Blue Heron watches closely as a Great Egret shares his corner of the river. Different feathers, same fishing grounds. They may be two very different-looking birds, but they hunt much of the same prey and often find themselves sharing—and occasionally competing for—the best spots. I love catching moments like this, when wildlife seems to be quietly sizing each other up.

A pretty special night to be under the stars. 🌌

Tonight was one of the darkest nights for viewing the Milky Way, with almost no moonlight competing with the stars. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get out with my camera and see what I could capture.

But the best part about September 11 has nothing to do with the night sky. Today my oldest son, Aubrey, turns 25. ❤️ Twenty-five years ago, he made me a mom for the first time.

So this Milky Way is for you, Aubrey. Happy 25th Birthday! I hope you always remember just how much you are loved.

My first attempt at capturing the Milky Way. ✨🌌

Last night I headed out beneath the stars with my camera, hoping to capture even a glimpse of our galaxy. There’s definitely a learning curve to astrophotography, but I think that’s part of what makes it so rewarding. This was attempt number one—and certainly not my last.

Hello, September. 🍂🦅

September arrived quietly today, somewhere between the last deep greens of summer and the first subtle hints that autumn is on its way.

I spent some time wandering with my camera, photographing whatever nature chose to put in front of me—turtles soaking up the warmth, a duck along the water’s edge, changing leaves and one very special surprise.

Just one bald eagle made an appearance today—the only eagle I spotted during my outing—but sometimes one is all it takes to make the entire morning memorable. 🦅

There’s something I love about this time of year. Summer hasn’t quite let go, but September has a way of reminding us that change is already happening 🍁
