We’re thrilled to announce that Queens Rising will host a visual arts exhibition, “Down with the King,” opening June 5 at as part of our June 2026 programming.

Curated by Wendy Arimah Berot, the exhibit is themed and based on male artists’ visual expression of, “Peace, Flowers, Freedom, Happiness”. These elements align with one’s quest for serenity, beauty, liberation (of stereotypes) and contentment. The title, taken from the song of the same name by Queens’ own Hip Hop royalty, Run-D.M.C. speaks to a spiritual re-centering that the group’s members experienced, and their anointed status in the Hip Hop macrocosm. The topic was chosen specifically for June as it’s recognized as Men’s Health Month, focusing on mental well-being and dedicated to breaking negative stigmas. The objective of the exhibit is to give male visual artists a space to actualize their individual journey of emotional healing and surround them with “flowers” of support and acceptance. Which results in protected peace and a stronger sense of self.

The Queens Rising 2026 Launch & Reception brought together artists, cultural leaders, and community organizers to kick off the 5th annual borough-wide celebration of art, culture, and creativity.

From live painting to powerful testimonies, this year’s launch reminded us what makes Queens unmatched: 190+ countries, 360+ languages, and an ecosystem where artists don’t just exist—they thrive.

As Donovan Richards Jr. said, Queens isn’t just diverse in demographics—it’s diverse in art. Painters, filmmakers, dancers, poets—each voice shaping the culture of the world borough.

This June, Queens Rising returns with a month-long lineup across the borough—connecting artists, venues, and communities through the power of creativity. Check our website (link in bio) for all upcoming events!

We’re thrilled to announce that Queens Rising will host a visual arts exhibition, “Down with the King,” opening June 5 at as part of our June 2026 programming.

Curated by Wendy Arimah Berot, this exhibition brings together male artists to celebrate creativity while raising awareness for Men’s Mental Health Month. Through their work, participating artists contribute to an important conversation around mental health, identity, and expression—supporting Northwell Health’s legacy of community wellness through the Arts & Healing Series.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of performing arts, music, visual arts, and film! Celebrate the incredible talent of Queens while connecting with local businesses and our creative community.

The event starts at the Woodside Library.
6:00 pm - Sign-in / Registration.*
6:10 pm - “Echoes of Arrival” by the Museum of Chinese in America.
Shormi Uddin Exhibition located in the 2nd Fl. Meeting Room
7:00 pm - The Wild Goose for food & drinks.
7:15 pm Queens Rising Remarks and Raffle.
7:30 pm Javier Madrazo Quartet by the School of Arts at Queens College.
8:30 pm Open Mic for our Artists!!
(Bring your instrument, your poem, your new song or dance piece, all are welcome!)

Queens Rising is delighted to provide our first 50 attendees with a ticket for one complimentary drink at The Wild Goose. After that, additional drinks will be at your own expense.
