My first time setting up a booth!! It was fun, wet and a little cold but I am so grateful that the Lord has led me to take a step out in faith and to see where His love will lead me!

It's Finished!!! This painting is going to be the first in a series of fox hunting paintings and I can't wait to share them all with you. I hope you enjoy this little story I wrote to go with it!

The air is cold, and a light frost covers the grass in a silvery blanket, letting it's beauty sparkle before the rays of the sun erase the evidence of it ever being there. As the first faint glimpse of sunlight touches the frozen grass, it's warmth transforms the icy crystals into clouds of heavy mist slowly rising above the grass and then then into the trees. Horses stand after a long run, blowing and steaming, while the faint cry of hounds diminishes in the morning stillness. The black, brown and white colors of the hounds can be seen through the haze weaving back and forth, searching. Then a one hound releases a bay that echos through the air. Horses and riders stand ready watching and listening through the fog. Another hound and then another and another take up the cry till a chorus of bays fills the air with excitement. The forms of the hounds disappear in the mist! Leather squeaks as riders lean forward, hooves flash and in a flurry of red and black coats the hunters gallop forward. The chase is on!

I have returned from my escapade into the warm, and sunny state of GA and what an amazing time I had! Getting to experience my first fox hunt with the Shakerag Hounds and my good friend Anna Heffner was an absoute delight! Needless to say I am definatly hooked and have already started working on some paintings!

Here is a small study I created and the first steps for a bigger verson I started working on! (And yes, my camara holder was not working very well :)

We love when guests visit and hunt with Shakerag! We were thrilled to welcome Anna and Eva last Tuesday at our beautiful Goldmine fixture. Eva, an artist, was so inspired by our sport that she painted this gorgeous scene below. Come back soon, ladies!

“The word for meekness in the Scriptures pictures a war horse at rest. It doesn’t thrash around the paddock snorting and kicking to intimidate the other horses. It stands at quiet, ready at it’s masters beck and call to be swift on the run and courageous in battle.”
Wayne Jacobsen

What a picture of a profound truth, to be ready but still. Calmly waiting for the cue to let lose an explosion of power and strength, harnessed by a simple word or a subtle touch of a spur. Putting complete trust in the voice of his leader, he charges headlong into the din and horrors of war, fire and confusion. Never once hesitating or doughting the will of his master. Let us also be so in the service of our Lord Jesus Christ. Waiting, resting, restraining the power and authority given to us, but with eagerness and readiness, listening for the call of our Lord, to spring into the field of battle with full trust and abandonment to His leading, without fear, strong and courageous, ready for war!

I have never met Homer in person but I feel like I have gotten to know him through the weeks of working on his portrait. It was commissioned from me as a gift to his owner whose life long dream was to own a horse. At 70 years old her dream came true when she purchased Homer, and paid for his kissing spine surgery and extensive rehab. Now she rides him every Sunday and though she is nervous to compete with him, she knows how much he loves it and permits him to be shown by others. Her love for Homer is unmeasurable and I was so honored to create this painting for her!
