The Summer Workshop Exchange with and begins with a corrugation style pottery workshop from on June 6th at 2 pm MDT (1:00 for our Arizona friends.)

Kayenta is an Utah artist using traditional methods and wild clay to create her amazing work. In this online workshop learn the art of corrugation style pottery, an ancient technique used in the American southwest. Corrugation refers to the texture that is created by spiraling and pinching coils to build upwards. Kayenta will demonstrate this technique, share tips and tricks for starting a pot, shaping and then finishing with a rim.

The call for submissions for the 2027 NCECA Annual Exhibition, Throw/Back, is now open! The exhibition’s title is a play on the verb most often applied to forming vessels on the potters wheel and an acknowledgment of the vast and diverse history of ceramics that inspires so many contemporary makers. As art historians of Asia and the Ancient Americas, curators Adriana Proser and Ellen Hoobler are interested in how ceramic forms endure and persist but also may undergo radical shifts in a relatively brief time. Even in the face of unimaginable personal or historical ruptures and traumas, and in times of relative stability, ceramics carry culture and meaning across centuries.

The collections of the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore include thousands of artworks, from around the world and across the centuries. Throw/Back represents an extraordinary opportunity for contemporary ceramic artists to reflect on the past, engage with the present, and envision the future.

For all of recorded human history, we have created vessels in which to hold water, food, collections of objects, or human remains. These vessels often exist to serve functional purposes, while also decorative with scenes of life and humanity. Vessels have been made of wood, stone, clay, glass, metal, and also paper, fiberglass, etc… While the original vessels served functional purposes, we now create non-functional vessels to be admired in form and beauty. Buckham Fine Arts Project welcomes submissions of three dimensional works of vessels, either functional or non-functional, in a wide range of size and materials

Founded in 1984, Buckham Fine Arts Project | Buckham Gallery is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the vision to support and nurture artists, build community and inclusivity, while challenging our audience to engage with contemporary art in new ways. In commitment to our vision to support artists, Buckham Gallery will provide a stipend of $50 to each artist selected for this exhibition to aid in shipping costs. We acknowledge this may not cover all costs associated with the shipment and return of artwork.

The Vessel exhibition will be held September 11 - October 3, 2026 at Buckham Gallery in Flint, MI.

We all had a fabulous time at Clay Arts Utah’s Annual Pottery Exchange and Membership Meeting on Saturday. was a beautiful location for the more than 30 artists in attendance with the woodfiring in progress and their adorable geese keeping watch. For the cup exchange the artists told us a bit about their work, and then drew the name of the recipient. It made each exchange feel like a personal gift.
On the business end, the membership approved the 2026-2027 budget. Modifications to the Constitution were also approved, including improved descriptions of executive committee roles, and election of President and Treasurer in opposite years to help with continuity. Finally, upcoming events were reviewed including the Summer Virtual Workshop June 6th with , the Fall Workshop being planned with Shasta Kruger, the 2027 Workshop with Candice Methe, The Holiday Sale Nov. 27 & 28, and an exciting opportunity with Red Butte Gardens to make giant seeds to be displayed by their corresponding plants in the teaching garden.
