This past week has been incredibly heavy. I’ve watched so many people in our community lose so much, but I’ve also watched Kauaʻi show up for one another in the most beautiful ways.

I keep asking myself, what else can I do?

Photography is what I have, so I want to use it to help.

I’m turning my $199 Studio Portrait Special at House of Portraits into a fundraiser. For every session purchased, $100 will be donated directly to someone in our Kauaʻi community who needs a little extra help right now. 🫶🏽

Your session includes:
📸 30-minute studio session
🎞️ 5 edited digital portraits of your choice
🖼️ One 8.5×11 print
✨ Option to purchase additional portraits

Ohana, couples, maternity, motherhood, keiki, siblings, best friends, your pets, updated headshots, or simply you, everyone is welcome.

Not ready for photos yet? You can purchase a gift certificate to use later or gift one to someone you love. The $100 will still be donated now, when our community needs it most.

Starting tomorrow, The House of Portraits Kaua’i in Kapaʻa will be open as a donation collection point to help get needed supplies to our North Shore community. 🫶🏽

I’ve been reaching out to people who are in direct communication with families up North so we can focus on what people are actually needing right now.

CURRENT PRIORITY NEEDS:
💧 Drinking water
🥫 Non-perishable food & easy-to-eat food
🧃 Drinks / electrolytes
🧻 Basic household essentials
🧼 Hygiene & personal care items
👶 Baby supplies
🐾 Pet food & supplies

📍 House of Portraits - 4504 Kukui st. Suite 206 in Kapaʻa
⏰ 10AM–3PM, starting tomorrow (September 15)

Ice has also been mentioned as a major need, but I’m seeing some amazing organizations already stepping up heavily to handle ice distribution, so I’d like to use our space to help fill some of the other needs and avoid duplicating efforts.

I’ll continue updating this list as I hear directly from people on the ground about what’s needed most.

I never imagined I’d be making a post like this on my photography page. 😔

For years, so many of you have trusted me to document some of the most meaningful moments of your lives, proposals, weddings, growing families, anniversaries, and once-in-a-lifetime trips to Kauaʻi. Today, I’m coming to this little community I’ve built to ask for help.

My daughter and I made it safely through the hurricane, and I’m incredibly grateful. But now I’m facing the reality of what comes after.

Photography is how I support my daughter and myself. With the storm came cancellations, postponed sessions, disrupted travel, and income I was depending on suddenly disappearing. We’re still without power and reliable internet, and I’m doing everything I can from my phone to keep Magic Photography running.

Just a few months ago, I took the biggest leap I’ve ever taken with my business and opened House of Portraits, a permanent home and studio for Magic Photography Kauaʻi. I poured my life savings into creating that space and took on the monthly expenses that come with finally having a place of my own.

I never imagined that only months after opening those doors, I’d be sitting here wondering how I’m going to keep them open.

Asking for help doesn’t come easily to me. But right now, I’m scared. So I’m putting my pride aside and being vulnerable with the community that has supported my work for all these years. 🥺

Mini sessions work for a lot of photographers.

For me, they never really did.
Every time I tried, I’d end up going over time anyway.

I’d say “just a few more minutes,”
because someone was just starting to relax,
or something real was finally happening.

And I didn’t want to cut that short just to stay on schedule.

That’s when I realized
the way I shoot just doesn’t fit into a tight time slot.

I need a little space to connect,
to adjust, and to let moments unfold naturally.

So I had to be honest with myself…
I’m just not a mini session photographer. 🖤
