🏖️ What is Sand Tray Therapy?

One of the questions I get asked most is, “What exactly is sand tray therapy?”

Think of sand tray as a way to tell your story without needing all the words.

Using miniature figures, objects, and a tray of sand, children, teens, and adults can create scenes that represent their thoughts, feelings, experiences, relationships, worries, hopes, and dreams.

Sometimes emotions are difficult to explain. Sometimes we don’t even have words for what we’re feeling. Sand tray allows those experiences to be expressed visually and symbolically in a safe, creative way.

In sand tray, there is no right or wrong way to create. A volcano might represent anger. A bridge might represent a relationship. A tiny house might represent safety, belonging, or family. Each tray tells a unique story.
