The next frames are almost done. This time, they are small. Walnut and Oak.
🖼 4x6 & 5x7 🖼
Also, I added a new feature. One inlay is on the frame’s face, while the other is on a 45 degree angle.
The next step is prepping the mitered corners before gluing the pieces together. 🖼

Why frames?
People asked me why I decided to make picture frames. Well, I could tell you many reasons, but here’s the most important for me:

My wife had a significant loss a few months ago, her grandma from Peru. Due to the pandemic, she couldn’t make it to say goodbye. However, I knew there was a way to make her feel closer to her while being here. So I decided to make one more frame for her, but this time it was going to be one frame that will make her remember and feel closer to that special memory, her grandma.

My wife couldn’t stop smiling for weeks, and that’s when I realized how meaningful my frames can be. They open a magic window for pictures, so people can travel to those memories.

I could tell you many reasons why I also love the designs and styles I’ve been using for my frames. But, my wife’s story was the main one for me.

This walnut and oak picture frame is finished. The best part of making this frame was cutting the middle groove. That, and setting the inlays were the most challenging. In the end, it turned out great, and the colors, rich. I am saving this design for future frames. 🖼

The walnut and oak picture frame has been glued together. Also, oak splines were put in the corners for extra strength. The next steps include chisel work to remove rough edges, and finish sanding to smooth the wood grain. 🖼

The rails for this custom picture frame have been rough sanded, cut to finished lengths, and mitered. I dry-fitted the frame, using tape, to make sure the corners meet well and there are no gaps. 🖼

This video shows progress of the picture frames before and after the inlays. Now, it’s time for much sanding. I expect a challenge while sanding the inner bevels. What I wouldn’t give for a custom shaper router bit. 🖼

The next frames are underway. This looks really messy, with glue everywhere, because it was. Regardless, all the inlays are in place. The next step is planing the inlays down to meet the surface. Then, a unique frame profile will begin to unfold using the router table.
