How and why Sully Framing & Art came to be. It was 1987 and I observed Joe Pisani -- of Art Gallery 101 -- giving a customer a quote for custom picture framing. Having just returned from Japan and bringing back a pocket computer, I created a program to calculate the cost of a custom picture framing job.
Joe was very excited and proposed creating a company and selling these systems. The name of the company was COMP-U-ENTERPRISES. We then pulled in my long-time friend Cosmo Quattrone to be a partner in this new venture.
Adding to the story...
We attended picture framing trade shows to promote our product -- which was called Comp-U-Frame -- with the help of Dorsey Taylor and Fred Laidey of Roanoke Moulding Design. They were a hoot and good people. Thanks, guys!
Long story cut short, this led to an interest in picture framing. Cosmo and I then went to the Carolina Framing School in North Carolina, learned the trade, created Sully Framing & Art, and the rest is history.
