Hello hello. It’s been a while ghosts and we miss you!

We want to make the announcement that we are doing another show this year! We can’t wait to see you again. This show is going to be incredible. See below for how you can help :

PORTLAND: Putting this out into the universe...Looking for unique alternative spaces in Portland to hold our next performance art show for Ghostland Haunts! We recently received a grant which we are so so grateful for as the project was on hiatus due to lack of funding. We want this show to be more epic than ever but we need to find the right space, even if it’s unexpected.

Wants:

* Multiple rooms are especially interesting to us- such as in a vintage home or warehouse
* Electrical capabilities are important. We can always bring in our own lights/sound, but it would be great if the space already had those things
* Central location (inner Portland, easily accessible by transit, parking)
* We are still working with a limited budget, so it must be reasonably priced
* We would love to do multiple shows if possible and set up in advance to create a wonderland environment
* Creative freedom to build the environment with art installations and other interactive details
* Weekend availability
* Capacity of 100 or more

Any suggestions appreciated! We have had past shows in bar spaces, and while they were great, they didn’t allow us to transform the environment as much as we wanted so we would prefer other suggestions, even outdoor ones!✨✨✨

The topic is CRYPTIDS.

Here is a little bit of lore about one of the creatures we will be writing about: THE JERSEY DEVIL

In New Jersey and Philadelphia folklore, the Jersey Devil (a.k.a. the Leeds Devil) is a legendary creature said to inhabit the Pine Barrens of Southern New Jersey. The creature is often described as a flying biped with hooves, but there are many variations. The common description is that of a kangaroo-like or wyvern-like creature with a goat- or horse-like head, leathery bat-like wings, horns, small arms with clawed hands, legs with cloven hooves, and a forked tail. It has been reported to move quickly and is often described as emitting a high-pitched "blood-curdling scream"

Here is a little bit of lore about one of the creatures we will be writing about: THE HYDRA

Hydra, in Greek legend, is a gigantic water-snake-like monster with nine heads (the number varies) one of which was immortal. The monster’s haunt was the marshes of Lerna, near Árgos, from which he periodically emerged to harry the people and livestock.

Lerna was reputed to be an entrance to THE UNDERWORLD. Anyone who attempted to behead the Hydra found that as soon as one head was cut off, two more heads would emerge from the fresh wound...

Here is a little bit of lore about one of the creatures we will be writing about: THE WENDIGO

The wendigo is a mythical man-eating creature or evil spirit. The wendigo may appear as a monster with some characteristics of a human or as a spirit who has possessed a human being and made them become monstrous. It is historically associated with murder, insatiable greed, and the cultural taboos against such behaviours.

The legend lends its name to the controversial modern medical term Wendigo psychosis, described by psychiatrists as a culture-bound syndrome with symptoms such as an intense craving for human flesh and fear of becoming a cannibal.

Hello all of you magical beings!

We’ve been hiding!

Here is a much needed update about why we have been so quiet since the last show. We still care deeply about the wonderful community we have created, but, sometimes, it can be hard to put challenging things into words, even for writers like us. We value honesty and transparency, so here it is:

Truth be told, the larger events are on hiatus until further notice. We have to be realistic with our expectations and the sustainability of this small but powerful project. This entire time, we have been self funded (a minimal budget from our personal funds), while still placing value on paying each person involved a fair, but small wage. We have big ideas and big dreams and want to continue on, but we absolutely cannot without some significant funding. This is necessary in order to bring those ideas to fruition and also so that we can pay those involved what they deserve. To this point, we have not been able to do that to the extent that we have wanted to.

While we search for funding opportunities, you will still see some small writing workshop events from us, the next of which is a cryptozoology theme taking place on Sunday, August 11th from 6-9 at Beech St Parlor. We would love to do more elaborate events again, but that is to be determined at this time. We are gathering our forces and trying to figure out our way as best we can. We want this to keep going and know you do too.

If any of you have ideas of grants/resources for funding, please do reach out to us. It’s hard to ask for help, especially for people like us who want to take on everything ourselves, but we have decided that the best way to move forward is to be open about our process and the struggle that it is to organize events on ultra-limited funds and resources. These events have been so rewarding and incredible for us, but also, so taxing mentally, financially, and emotionally.

Thank you to everyone who has believed in us, attended our events, and supported us in any way. We could not have done this without you. It is truly a gift to have this community in our lives. Bringing such a diverse group of people together to experience magic through creative storytelling is paramount to our individual lives. We know the future holds bright things that we can share with all of you!
