「全員が主役」のクラスを目指して。

今回の Wicked クラスでは、一人ひとりがいろんな役を経験し、ソロパートもできるだけみんなで分け合いました。

私が演劇のクラスで大切にしているのは、ただ「上手に演じる」ことだけではありません。

役を演じることで、
自分とは違う誰かの気持ちを想像する。
感情を身体で感じてみる。
相手と関わる中で、自分や相手の変化に気づく。
そんな「擬似体験」ができること。

舞台の上で経験したことが、
少しずつ舞台の外の人生にもつながっていく。

それが、演劇の面白さだと思っています。

みんなが楽しそうに舞台に立つ姿を見ることができて、先生としてとても嬉しい時間でした🥹💗

A class where everyone gets to be a star.

For this Wicked class, I wanted every student to experience different roles and have opportunities to shine, so we shared solo parts as much as possible.

For me, theater education is about more than learning how to perform.

It’s about experiencing someone else’s perspective.
Feeling emotions through your body.
Noticing how we change when we connect with another person.

Acting gives us a chance to safely experience these things through our imagination and our bodies.

And what we experience on stage can become part of how we understand ourselves and connect with others in everyday life.

That’s what makes theater so powerful—and so much fun. 💗

And seeing every student enjoy their moment on stage was such a joy as their teacher.

風になったり、木になったり、動物になったり…。
自然の中で見つけたものや心が動いた瞬間を大切にしながら、演劇や音楽、身体表現を通して、子どもたちみんなで世界にひとつだけの小さなミュージカルを創ります。
Five days of nature, music, movement, and imagination. Children will create a one-of-a-kind original musical inspired by their discoveries in nature.

School of Rock 🎸
(English below)

中高生たちがわずか2週間で創り上げるサマーミュージカル『School of Rock』。
今回は音楽監督として関わらせていただきました。

「体がほぐれると、心がほぐれる。
心がほぐれると、声がほぐれる。」

そんなことを大切にしながら、一人ひとりの表現と真摯に向き合った2週間でした。

10代は、自分らしさを模索する一方で、自信を失いやすい時期でもあります。だからこそ、安心して挑戦できる場づくりと、一人ひとりに寄り添う声がけを心がけました。

舞台経験のある子もない子も、最後にはそれぞれが自分の殻を破り、舞台の上で輝いていました。

表現することの喜びや仲間と創り上げる達成感を通して、大きく成長していく姿に胸がいっぱいです。
このかけがえのない成長の瞬間に立ち会えたことに、心から感謝しています✨

Over the course of just two weeks, a group of middle and high school students came together to create a full production of School of Rock.

This summer, I had the privilege of serving as the Music Director.

One belief guided my work throughout the process:

When the body relaxes, the heart opens.
When the heart opens, the voice is set free.

With that in mind, I worked closely with each student, supporting their unique voice and expression.

The teenage years can be a time of self-discovery, but also a time when confidence easily fades. I focused on creating a safe and encouraging environment where every student felt comfortable taking risks and trying something new.

Whether they had years of stage experience or were stepping onto a stage for the very first time, each student ultimately broke through their own barriers and found the courage to shine.

Watching them grow through creativity, collaboration, and performance filled my heart with gratitude.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have witnessed and supported such a meaningful journey of growth. ✨

Annie Kids 🎭
5日間で舞台を創り上げる、アニーのサマーキャンプが無事終了！

キンダー（日本でいう年長さん）から小学3年生までの子どもたち、そして高校生のインターン生たちが、同じ舞台に立ちました。

高校生たちも、実はみんな幼い頃にアニーの舞台に立った経験者。今回は大人の役として舞台をリードする姿を見て、なんとも感慨深い気持ちになりました。

私は振り付けを担当。
人生で初めて舞台に立つ子どもたちが、緊張や不安を乗り越えながらも、堂々と自分の役割をやり遂げる姿に胸を打たれました。

もしこの経験が、子どもたちにとって人生を変えるような“ひと夏の思い出”になったなら——
その瞬間に立ち会えたことを、心から幸せに思います。
多幸感と高揚感に満ちた、忘れられない一週間でした✨

Our 5-day Annie summer camp, where we created a full stage production in just one week, has come to an end!

Children ranging from kindergarteners to 3rd graders shared the stage with high school interns.

What made this especially meaningful was that all of these high school students had once performed in Annie themselves when they were little. Seeing them return this time in adult roles, guiding and leading the younger cast, felt deeply moving.

I had the joy of serving as the choreographer.
Watching children step onto the stage for the very first time—and rise above their nerves and fears to fully embrace their roles—was incredibly inspiring.

If this experience becomes a life-changing summer memory for even one child, I feel deeply grateful to have witnessed it.

It was a week filled with joy, excitement, and the magic of live theater ✨

First summer camp of the year—done! ☀️
今年最初のサマーキャンプが無事終了しました☀️

Beginning Acting Foundations at Oregon Children's Theatre.

7〜11歳の子どもたちと過ごした、表現と発見にあふれる1週間。
演劇を通して学ぶのは、ただ演じる技術だけではありません。
自分の身体や声に意識を向け、
想像力を広げ、
相手の声や存在に耳を傾け、
言葉を超えてつながる力を育んでいきます。

✨ 身体への気づき
✨ 声をコントロールする力
✨ 想像する力
✨ 聴き、受け取り、反応する力
✨ 提案に “Yes, and…” で応える柔軟さ
✨ 仲間とともに創るアンサンブルの力

表現に「正解」はありません。
大切なのは、自分の殻を少しずつ破りながら、一歩踏み出してみること。
コンフォートゾーンを抜け出し、それぞれの形で自分を表現してくれた生徒たちを、心から誇りに思います。

今年の夏、きのねスペースさんとのコラボで、
自然 × 表現 × 日本語をテーマにしたサマーキャンプを開催予定です✨

This summer, in collaboration with Kinone Space, I am offering a summer camp centered on nature, creative dramatics, and Japanese language✨

自然の中で感じたことを、
ことば・音楽・身体を使って自由に表現しながら、
子どもたちみんなで小さなオリジナルミュージカルを創っていきます。
風になったり、木になったり、動物になったり…🌿

Children will explore nature and express what they feel through language, music, and movement, creating a small original musical together.
Becoming the wind, a tree, an animal… 🌿

最近5歳になった息子。

赤ちゃんの頃から演劇の現場にはよく連れて行っていましたが、今回初めて、自分の「生徒」として、他の子どもたちに混ざってクラスに参加しました。
4〜6歳対象の Creative Dramatics（劇あそび）のクラス。
たった6週間でしたが、その成長ぶりには本当に驚かされました。

そもそも、幼児が夢中になる「ごっこ遊び」には、さまざまな学びが詰まっています。

何かになりきったり、物を別のものに見立てたりする中で、子どもたちは自然とたくさんの力を育んでいきます。

・想像力
・表現力
・共感力
・社会性
・コミュニケーション能力　など

私の役割は、子どもたちの心理的安全性を守ること。
安心して表現できる場、安心してぶつかり合える場をファシリテートすることです。

今の子どもたちは、一昔前のように、子ども同士で何もないところから自由に遊びを生み出す経験が少なくなっています。
スマートフォンやタブレットに囲まれ、「生身の人間とどう対話するか」を身体感覚として学ぶ機会も減っています。

だからこそ、演劇や表現活動を通して、人と人が直接関わり合う場をつくることには、大きな意味があると感じています。

このような演劇のクラスで、子どもたちと共に学び、育ち合えることを、とても誇りに思います。

息子よ。
これから人生の荒波に直面しても、
強く、しなやかに、そして楽しく生きていってね。

My son recently turned five.

Ever since he was a baby, I’ve brought him to theater rehearsals and performance spaces. But this was the first time he joined a class as one of my actual “students,” participating alongside the other children.

It was a Creative Dramatics class for ages 4–6.
Only six weeks long, yet I was amazed by how much he grew during that short time.

Pretend play, which young children naturally immerse themselves in, offers so many opportunities for learning.
As children step into different roles and transform ordinary objects through imagination, they develop important life skills in a very organic way:

• imagination
• self-expression
• empathy
• social skills
• communication skills
and so much more.

My role as an educator is to create psychological safety for children—
to facilitate a space where they feel safe to express themselves, take risks, collaborate, and even navigate conflicts.

Today’s children have fewer opportunities than past generations to engage in unstructured free play with one another.
Surrounded by smartphones and tablets, many are growing up without enough chances to physically experience how to connect and communicate with real human beings.

That is why I deeply believe in the value of theater and expressive arts education—creating spaces where children can truly interact, imagine, and grow together.

I feel incredibly grateful and proud to do this work.

And to my son:
No matter what challenges life brings your way,
I hope you continue to live with strength, resilience, and joy.

私が演出を担当したミュージカル『 Willy Wonka KIDS 』が、無事に本番を迎えました。

2年生から5年生まで、約40人の子どもたち。
この4ヶ月の間に、一人ひとりが本当に大きく成長しました。

これだけ多くの人が、同じ場所で、一つの作品を創り上げる。
それは決して簡単なことではありません。

歌、ダンス、セリフはもちろん、
舞台での立ち位置、出入りのタイミング、道具の移動や舞台転換など、覚えることは山ほどあります。

頭で理解することと、実際に身体でできることはまったく別。
できるようになるまで、何度も何度も繰り返し練習します。

その過程では、仲間とぶつかることもある。
思うようにできず、自分にイライラすることもある。
でも、それは人間だから。感情があるから。

うまくいかない時にどう向き合うか。
相手とどう関わるか。
自分の気持ちをどうコントロールするか。
そんな「生きる力」を、演劇は実践の中で育ててくれるのだと思います。

自制心、忍耐力、共感力。
AI時代にますます大切になると言われる“非認知能力”を、演劇体験は自然に育んでくれる。

そして、自分の身体、声、想像力を使って表現する力は、一生ものの財産になる。

そんな体験の一端を支えることができていたなら、演出家としてこれ以上嬉しいことはありません。

The musical Willy Wonka KIDS that I directed successfully made it to the performance day.

Around 40 students, from 2nd to 5th grade, came together for this production, and over the past four months, each child has grown tremendously.

Creating one shared piece of art with this many people in the same space is never easy.
There are songs, dances, and lines to memorize, of course—but also stage positions, entrances and exits, prop transitions, scene changes, and so much more.

Understanding something intellectually and being able to physically do it are completely different things.
The children practiced over and over again until it became part of them.

Along the way, there were moments of frustration.
Moments of conflict with peers.
Moments of disappointment in themselves.
But that’s part of being human. We all have emotions.

How do we respond when things don’t go our way?
How do we work with others?
How do we regulate our emotions?
I believe theater gives children a place to practice these life skills in a very real and embodied way.

Self-regulation, perseverance, empathy—
the very non-cognitive skills that are becoming increasingly important in the age of AI are deeply nurtured through theater experiences.

And the ability to express oneself using the body, voice, and imagination is a lifelong skill.

If I was able to support even a small part of that journey, I couldn’t ask for anything more.

I'm grateful for Portland Drama Club for giving me this amazing opportunity✨

ストーリーの世界を全身で感じながら、
自然に日本語にふれていきます。

日本とアメリカで、さまざまな背景を持つ子どもたちへの日本語教育に携わってきた日本語教師。早稲田大学大学院（年少者日本語教育）修了、ポートランド州立大学教育学修士。現在は二人の子の母として、自分の心をマインドフルに保つことの大切さを日々実感している。

演劇・音楽・ダンスで、言語を超えて「伝えたい」を育てる表現教育家。カリフォルニア州 Foothill Theatre Conservatory および東京外国語大学スペイン語学科卒業。現在はポートランドにて、ミュージカル指導や学校ワークショップ、ストーリータイムなど幅広く活動。二児の母としての経験も生かし、大人も子どもも自分らしく表現できる場づくりを大切にしている。
