✨Please join us! We are excited to announce our first presentation of 2026 in our ongoing lecture series, “Women and Art in the 20th Century. you are invited for an engaging talk exploring the work of pioneering feminist artist Mónica Mayer.

Art historian Alberto McKelligan-Hernandez will present “Mónica Mayer: Past and Present Examples of Feminist Art in Mexico and Beyond.” In this lecture, McKelligan-Hernandez explores how Mayer challenged social and artistic norms to reimagine the role of women in art and society—both in Mexico and internationally.

📸✨ Upcoming Lecture: Jennifer Stoots presents Dorothea Lange — Photographer and Agent for Change

Behind some of the most powerful images in American history stands Dorothea Lange, a photographer whose empathy and artistry helped shape the nation’s social conscience.
Join us as Jennifer Stoots explores Lange’s extraordinary life and legacy — from her early success as a San Francisco portrait photographer to her groundbreaking work documenting the Great Depression.

Moved by the hardship she witnessed, Lange turned her lens toward the streets, using her camera as a tool for awareness and change. Her compassion and vision helped define documentary photography in America.

📷 The first photo in this post is one of Lange’s most well-known images, Migrant Mother, a timeless symbol of resilience and humanity. It's hard to believe this woman was 32 years old when she was photographed. Also during the Great Depression, Lange's work captured Oregon families in 1939. The latter images in this carousel are from San Francisco in 1942 during the evacuation of Japanese Americans into internment camps during World War II — powerful reminders of art’s ability to bear witness.

Don’t miss this inspiring afternoon celebrating art, empathy, and the enduring power of photography.

🍂 It’s been a wonderful start to fall for our chapter — a season of connection, creativity, and inspiration. We’ve gathered for events that invite us to look and listen closely to art and the stories it tells.

Recently, we had the privilege of touring the Marie Watt exhibit at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, guided by Maryanna Ramirez and Jordan Schnitzer himself. Jordan began collecting Marie’s work when she was an emerging artist, and it was truly special to hear about their shared journey and the powerful narratives woven through her pieces.

Marie’s art speaks to community, heritage, and the act of gathering — themes that resonate deeply with us this season. What a joy to experience her work together and celebrate the beauty of storytelling through art. ✨

🎨✨ Last Sunday, the Oregon Alliance for the National Museum of Women in the Arts gathered at Pacific Northwest College of Art for a fascinating lecture with Christine Weber on the Bauhaus School — now celebrating its 100th year since its founding in Dessau, Germany.

Christine highlighted four remarkable Bauhaus women whose vision, innovation, and courage transformed the worlds of art, design, and modern thinking. Their influence continues to shape how we see and create today. Check out Lectures on our website for the full recording of this inspiring talk.
