Cyanotype & Sun Photography!
Anna Atkins was a pioneer of cyanotype photography, using Sir John Herschel’s method to create blue and white images of plants and algae. Her book Photographs of British Algae is considered the first book illustrated with photographic images. 🌿

Want to try it yourself? We also carry sun print kits, so you can make your own cyanotypes using sunlight and whatever interesting specimens you find.

She combines primary source research with traditional techniques to help preserve and share this unique chapter of American material culture. 🐎

Explore the near forgotten art of Victorian wirework hair flowers in this hands on introduction to a remarkable 19th century craft once practiced in American homes. You’ll learn the traditional gimp technique and create your own horsehair flower while discovering the rich cultural history behind this often misunderstood artform.

Horsehair and bead colors may vary.
