Meet our Spring Revels Playwright!
We are thrilled to have Yasmin Ruvalcaba Saludado back for a second year as our Spring Revels playwright. In addition to writing the script, Yasmin has been integral to the continuing development of our newest program, from refining the structure to developing more effective engagement strategies.

We asked Yasmin to share some thoughts about Spring Revels and her new play, Rancho Trinidad - scroll through to see what she said!

We are honored to collaborate with Yasmin and all of our artists and chorus members on this brand new Spring Revels production - come enjoy it with us June 2nd through June 4th at the Brunish Theatre.

Moriviví company members Michael Cavazos and Giovanni Alva are currently in production with HOME / LAND, a new immersive experience in collaboration with Portland's Hand2Mouth Theatre, France's Begat Theater, and NYC's WaxFactory.

This devised work began two years ago while in isolation from Covid. Zoom meetings were held and discussion began. They spent the two years evolving the idea, brainstorming, workshopping, researching and interviewing around themes of displacement. Finally this summer, the companies began building and solidifying script when all artists were able to gather in early August right here in Portland. Then last weekend, HOME / LAND opened on the SW Waterfront in the Zidell Lot. It runs through September 18th!

Get your tickets at link in comments!

Here's more about the show:
Come and travel through a live performance installation to question our relationship to home, comfort, and safety.

HOME / LAND is an immersive journey along the paths of personal and collective memories. Within a context of critical instability, when displacement and forced migrations have caused many to leave their homes and everything they hold dear, audience members are each assigned a temporary unit in a government-run shelter village called Lot 6B.

Audience members will move back and forth through time and witness stories about the singular place, Portland, and all those who have occupied and lived here. HOME / LAND asks audiences to question their own personal relationship to the place they call home and their hopes for what its future might hold.

Morivivi Theatre is hosting a 3-day in-person creative workshop for Black, Indigenous and Artists of Color aimed at exploring the theme of “Reconexiones/Reconnections”. During the three days we will explore storytelling, improv, and devising with the goal of creating a short performance of our own design. Space is limited. This workshop is FREE. Donations are welcome at www.morivivitheatre.org/support.

Workshops:
Friday, June 24th, 6pm - 9pm
Storytelling Workshop, facilitated by Yasmin Ruvalcaba Saludado
Storytelling is rooted in the voices we carry with us and the relationships we build when we exchange our stories and words with one another. This workshop will explore storytelling through the question, what can we create when we step away from the individual and meld our stories to create a narrative for us?

Saturday, June 25th, 1pm - 4pm
Improv Workshop, facilitated by Geo Alva
These Improv classes are centered around helping folks harness the skills of spontaneity, team work, and communication. The classes will be comprised of exercises that sharpen the skills of Listening, Accepting & Advancing, and Team Work. The skills one picks up here can be taken beyond the black box/ theater and into ones work life, personal life, and where ever life takes you. The goal is to help build confidence so you can tackle any situation that comes your way.

Sunday, June 26th, 1pm - 4pm
Devising Workshop, facilitated by Michael Cavazos
Devised theatre is a way of theatre-making in which the script/performance originates from collaborative, often improvisatory work by an ensemble. Using found and original material created throughout the 3-part workshop, participants will share experiences of connecting and reconnecting in the time of Covid and create a short performance.
