Artist Orville Guiguiento was found painting at the Fish House at sunrise this week, capturing the beautiful boatlines of S/V Tanbarque emerging from the fog. This watercolour is his competition piece in a Tequesta art show this weekend, and it already sold!.. another example of the interesting variety of dockside happenings at the Fish House community.

Our Story
Waterfront Art Studios, Home to 7 working Artists, Twisted Craft & Creamery, Marker 23 Gallery and Tattoo Studio and Port Salerno Ghost Tours . The Fish House Art Center is located on the waterfront of the Manatee Pocket in the Village of Port Salerno, Florida, just 5 miles south of downtown Stuart. The Fish House Art Center is "home" to multiple resident artists' studios that includes a ceramic/pottery artist, Fine Art Painter, a Photographer, a Lamp-work artist, a Fiber Artist and School of Textile Arts, a Weaver and a Stained Glass Artist. The resident artists work in their studios year round. The public is welcome to watch them work and purchase their creations. Some studios offer a variety of workshops that are open to the public. Each Artist studio keeps its own individual hours. There are many great restaurants, all within easy walking distance of The Art Center. Last workshop at the Fish House Art Center and Marina in Port Salerno. this "hybrid" workshop begins tomorrow morning at The Aya Fiber Studio. It runs all week, so watch our clothes line out front and be prepared for great pictures!

This weeks workshop with Sharon Sorken at the Aya Fiber Studio in the Fish House Art Center and Marina was absolutely marvelous! this was one of the 1st full classes we have had since 3/2020 when the pandemic started. Last week 9 ladies traveled form all across the United States to come to Port Salerno, Florida and study BotanicalPrint with Sharon. We had a lot of laughs, some great food from the The Twisted Tuna - Port Salerno and EVERYONE created beautiful Botanical Prints. Thank You Sharon for a great class! See you next week! Have a wonderful weekend on the beach!

Doesn't it look different than the current waterfront dining by the current Aya Fiber Studio location ? This is the Waterfront dining/ marina nearest to the new Studio Space. You will all LOVE this place! I went there for lunch today when showing friends our new studio location. Happy hour from 4-6 daily, with discounted wine, drinks and appetizers. Prime Rib on Thursday evening. and, The same Tiki Taxi & Cruises we took from the Fish House Art Center and Marina so once we move we can keep our "fun" evening extra curricular activities! Those of you who come to the studio during season by boat will be really pleased! The marina has some really nice amenities! Starting to get excited!

Just like the hands of an indigo artisan, the color of blue derived from the tade Japanese indigo plant is said to show its own variety. “Japan Blue” was coined in the 19th century by a British chemist as a catchall for the 48 different hues that can be produced from the sukumo dye. It is a remarkably versatile medium to work with, and I would like to introduce you to our favorite indigo workshop in Port Salerno, Florida

The owner, Suzanne Connors has been practicing the art of aizome indigo dyeing over the last 13 years and she opened the first dyeing workshop in Martin County back in 2014. Suzanne produces stunning textiles, but the studio serves a secondary purpose as well. This goal is to educate locals and travelers alike in the ways of traditional japanese craft and other fiber art genres.
There are several common ways of performing the aizome dyeing process. One method uses hand cut katagami stencils to apply a thick dye-rice resistant paste to the fabric and then cover it with sawdust. Dipping this in dye leaves behind a design that maintains a high level of detail. This is called katazome. Another way to leave a design on the textile is to paint it on freehand using wax. This Japanese method of batik is called rozome
The most popular process for visitors at the Aya fiber Studio is called shibori and is remarkably like the tie-dyeing we have all seen. Strings or rubber bands are used to bind a folded cloth. Patterns are hand stitched. Some are even folded and clamped with wood blocks. The binding can be in applied in evenly spaced intervals, or in a more random approach with creative overlaps. All these methods will produce patterns on the cloth. An inexperienced dyer may not be able to correctly read the pattern that will be produced as they bind the fabric, so part of the fun is the element of surprise. Another is experiencing the magic of indigo!
Visitors to The Aya Fiber Studio Workshop can experience a one day or 3-day aizome squeeze dyeing workshop. The studio offers shibori and indigo workshops monthly. The first dip will turn the cloth a rich green color, but successive plunges push the color to a much darker hue. When the desired shade is achieved, the finishing process occurs. The dye is neutralized with a vinegar solution and then the textile is dried for you to take home.

There are several common ways of performing the aizome dyeing process. One method uses hand cut katagami stencils to apply a thick dye-rice resistant paste to the fabric and then cover it with sawdust. Dipping this in dye leaves behind a design that maintains a high level of detail. This is called katazome. Another way to leave a design on the textile is to paint it on freehand using wax. This Japanese method of batik is called rozome
The most popular process for visitors at the Aya fiber Studio is called shibori and is remarkably like the tie-dyeing we have all seen. Strings or rubber bands are used to bind a folded cloth. Patterns are hand stitched. Some are even folded and clamped with wood blocks. The binding can be in applied in evenly spaced intervals, or in a more random approach with creative overlaps. All these methods will produce patterns on the cloth. An inexperienced dyer may not be able to correctly read the pattern that will be produced as they bind the fabric, so part of the fun is the element of surprise. Visitors to The Aya Fiber Studio Workshop can experience a one day or 3-day aizome squeeze dyeing workshop. The studio offers shibori and indigo workshops monthly. After binding their cloth as they please, the dipping process begins. Submerging the bundle into a vat of indigo and kneading and squeezing it is a highly satisfying tactile experience. The first dip will turn the cloth a rich green color, but successive plunges push the color to a much darker hue. When the desired shade is achieved, the finishing process occurs. The dye is neutralized with a vinegar solution and then the textile is dried for you to take home.
