It became clear that I needed to pursue what was to change my life in ways I could not imagine. Graduating with a degree in Visual Art from Westfield State University in Massachusetts was a wonderful learning experience. In my opinion, that knowledge elevated my artistic abilities and vision to a remarkable level. I have always embraced the belief that the greater the talent and vision, the greate
r the art. My Professor John Calhoun, who teaches art at the College level, taught me to master depth, blending, and glazing techniques that make my paintings come alive. It is important that every painting I create exhibits a strong relationship of negative and positive space. As the shapes start to appear, I take into consideration the harmonious balance of the subject matter against its surroundings. Most importantly, how the subject relates to the placement on the canvas. Capturing the radiance of light and the illusion of shadows is so important. It reveals the delicate movement from light to dark to suggest volume, while adding an atmospheric quality to each painting. The textures of the paintings are relatively smooth so as not to detract from the overall intent of the artwork.
