Hello, LawnChair Community,
It's October! The air's finally just a bit crisp. Social media marketers are busy making pumpkin-spice flavored pitches. Here at LawnChair headquarters, we're in New Canaan, making theatre.
Just in time for the spooky season, Carin Zakes, LawnChair's co-founder, is directing Dracula, A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, Really. In this version, the vampire hunter is a woman, and there are no damsels-in-distress. This is a Dracula that shatters glass ceilings with pointy sticks. To quote Alex Soloski from the NY Times, "Hamill writes juicy, munchy, crunchy roles that actors like to play."
There are more than a few LawnChair folk involved in the production. Artistic Director Peter Green is producing and designing sound. Composer and Musical Director Keith Levenson (orchestral conductor for The Who. Yes, that the Who), who has been musical director for our cabarets and the last summer production of A Midsummer Night's Queen has composed a bite-neck score. And the cast includes our frequent art director and set decorator, Alex Theodoropoulos, having a ripping good time on stage, as well as Geoffrey Gilbert, Noam Ben Yakir, and Nova Hall, all of whom have appeared in LawnChair productions.
Dracula rests on the shoulders of its production team, including LawnChair family members Mario Fuentes (Set designer), Kevin Rishel (Crew chief), Jac-ques Robinson (Projection designer), and Zach Slocumb (Asst. produdcer). The thing about community theatre - it requires a whole community.
Kate Hamill's Dracula, A Feminist Revenge Fantasy, Really is bloody good fun, with or without the pumpkin spice. Please come see!
