I have a house built in 86 that has a 3 prong dryer receptacle. Any reason I can't switch it to a 4 prong? The ground wire isn't terminated in the box but is at the panel.

Is this plug (dryer) safe to use?

What caused this?
I had to move the electric dryer out of the way to work on the washing machine as one of suspension rods failed and when I unplugged the dryer I saw this. Immediately went to Home Depot and replaced it with a new one. The outlet feels like it doesn't have a good grip on the plugs. Also noticed there was no relief strain. Planning on getting that outlet replaced and adding a relief strain clamp.

Dryer outlet issues

I posted previously about this but thought I would consolidate here with more pictures. Backstory: Inspection stated that dryer outlet “doesn’t meet code” with no additional info. I posted a photo on Reddit and got multiple responses along the lines of “inspector is an idiot,” to “maybe it is missing a wire and only has 3 or new code says needs to be a gfci.” Another told me to check the voltage which I just did.. here is where things get interesting. The voltage from neutral or ground to each leg is about 120v each. Across both is the intended 240v, however, I went to flip the breaker for the “dryer” so that I could take the plate off and check for wires and when I checked for a 0v it’s still hot! The main breaker does shut it off, but not the one labeled dryer. What the heck?! I’m def not an electrician, but I’m trying!

Plugging washer and dryer both at 120v 15amp into 1 outlet

I just replaced an older washer and dryer that used a 120v outlet and a 240v outlet with a Miele W1 and T1 which both say they run on 120v and 15amps.

Because of the layout of the laundry closet, I was hoping to run both machines off the same outlet. Because it, along with all of the water hookups could be hidden behind the stacked washer and dryer. Then I could convert the 240v outlet for use for a darkroom setup that my girlfriend making.

I’m not sure if that’s possible or if I’m introducing a safety or fire hazard that I don’t quite understand.

I replaced what I thought was a 15amp outlet with a 15amp GFCI outlet but I guess I could check if the wires could work on 20amps. Would that even make a difference?

Can I plug both machines into each plug of this outlet? Does it need to be GFCI?

I’m a new homeowner and trying to learn this stuff as I go. Any help would be really appreciated!

Dryer Outlet

I’ve asked in a few DIY groups and want to ask here also to give feedback on how my dryer outlet is looking. I’ve seen people recommended to get an antioxidant paste for better conductivity. Does this appear safe enough to put on the cover and use it? I plan to get the wiring replaced in the spring, but I want to make sure it is safe enough for the winter to use.

Dryer trips breaker new build

Just moved into a new DR Horton new build, my dryer worked at my last place. I plug in my dryer and it trips breaker to the middle position and won't turn on.

Any trouble shooting ideas? Chatgpt just keeps having me turn on and off breaker and making sure my sh*ts 4 prong lol
