Through our year-round exhibitions, educational programs, events, and workshops, the Millard Sheets Art Center provides the community with meaningful and fun experiences within the world of visual arts. As part of The Learning Centers at Fairplex, we engage the community at multiple levels of education. Our programs build on The Learning Centers’ (TLC) dedication to create innovative experiences.
It is our goal to create a variety of programs centered on traditional visual arts education that provide anyone with an interest in the arts an opportunity to explore and develop a love and passion for being creative.

Raised in Los Angeles, photographer Star Montana () uses her community in Boyle Heights as the backdrop and narrative of her work. By utilizing her family’s photographic archive, Montana’s work recreates spaces and moments that reflect on themes of personal loss and growth. Her carefully reconstructed installations play a personal homage to her family throughout the generations. Her work has been exhibited nationally at Charlie James Gallery (), Residency Art Gallery (), La Plaza de Cultura y Artes () and at Ballroom Marfa (). Montana will be an artist-in-residence at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation () in 2020. ...“Shifting Aesthetics: A Selection of Works by 11 Contemporary L.A. Artists” opens on Aug. 30 and runs through Nov. 3, 2019. Schools and universities are encouraged to book their docent-led walkthroughs of the exhibition. Please contact [email protected] to learn more. Alt 66 - LA County Fair - Submission Process Update!
We are simplifying the process and waiving the entry fee.
Alt 66 is and should be a collaborative project and we felt the online submission process was hindering an essential part of the creative process, dialogue. I am encouraging everyone to submit their idea for their installation directly to me at this email: [email protected]
I only need a brief description.
The deadline is still April 1, but this submission process will allow us to talk through your concept in more detail before heading to the jurors, which may help increase its chance for selection.
We’ve also determined that an $11 application fee would be better spent on coffee and tea with me. If you want to get together to talk about your idea, please let me know! If not, treat yourself to some new pencils and get sketching.
Details and deck can be found at www.lacountyfair.com/alt66
Thank you for your time. I’m looking forward to hearing your ideas!

Photographers are invited to submit artwork that reflects the intrigue of Route 66 that calls travelers from around the world to the 2,448 mile journey. The experience that has inspired today’s Americana is one that is best remembered through personal stories of travel and adventure.
The medium of photography is essential to capturing those memories and through your unique perspective will allow us to experience the “Mother Road” along with so many others.
Selected entries will be exhibited during the LA County Fair
