Did you know that Congenital Heart Defects effects 1 in every 110 babies? My sweet baby boy just happened to be that ONE!

I will never forget November 3, 2011....The day Jason & I walked out of our 20 week ultrasound with a pile of ultrasound pictures, two tiny little girls completely confused & my heart shattered in a million pieces. I called my Mom while crying so hard I could barely breathe & my sweet little Braylee in the backseat asking “Is my baby brother okay Mommy?” It’s a day that changed me, my family & our entire world for the rest of our lives. It’s the day that we learned that It DOES happen to us! That the 1 in every 110 babies born with heart defects DOES effect our family & as crazy as it may sound, I wouldn’t change it for the world!
Our sweet little Ryker taught us more in his short 14 months than anyone ever could! He taught us how to live life to the fullest, stay close to those who make our hearts happy & smile every chance we get!
But he also showed us a life that I never knew existed. He showed us the life of a Heart Family- Flying 2000 miles across the country to find someone that would help our 4 day old baby boy, living within the walls of a Cardiac ICU for a year, going days & sometimes weeks without seeing each other, learning everything there is to know about heart medications, diuretics & ECMO & mostly.....looking into the eyes of my sweet boy PRAYING it’s not the last time... This is a life I wouldn’t wish upon anyone, yet I’m so grateful for it! Ryker changed us....he changed us in every possible way! He made us see that there is another life out there that not many in this world are able to see....the hospital life & heart wrenching world of Congenital Heart Defects.
