Berkshire Theatre Group is one of the largest and most exciting arts organizations in Berkshire County. Created by the merger of two of the oldest Berkshire County establishments, Berkshire Theatre Festival in Stockbridge and The Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield, it presents the finest in theatre, music and the performing arts. Berkshire Theatre Festival was founded in 1928 and The Colonial Theatre

opened in 1903. Berkshire Theatre Group operates five stages: The 400-seat Fitzpatrick Main Stage, 122-seat Unicorn Theatre and the outdoor Neil Ellenoff Stage on the Berkshire Theatre Festival campus in Stockbridge, and the 800-seat Colonial Theatre and The Garage performance space in Pittsfield. Our complex of buildings and grounds in the Berkshires represent sites catalogued on the National Historic Registry. Serving over 100,000 patrons each season and 17,000 students with its wide range of education programs, Berkshire Theatre Group brings the best of the arts to the residents of Berkshire County and beyond year-round. 20 years ago today, on August 29, 2006, the inaugural show of the newly renovated Colonial Theatre, a touring show of RENT, began performances, marking the historic theatre's continued dedication to produce and present creative work that enriches and strengthens the Berkshire County community and beyond.

BTG is honored to have collaborated with The Du Bois Freedom Center for 1781: A Staged Reading about Elizabeth Freeman and we send our congratulations on their interactive storytelling kiosk highlighting the legacy of Elizabeth Freeman, which we were honored to join the celebration of its installation this past Saturday at Great Barrington Town Hall!

Thank you to all of our performers, director and playwright for bringing 1781 to life on stage: Ned Averill-Snell, Isabella "Izzy" Brown, Lonnie Carter, Ronan Conway, Dana Harrison, Corinna May, Robert McKay, Ruby Cameron Miller, Vernice Miller, Linda Rossi, Clinton Turner Davis, Dan Woods and Jeannie Marlin Woods.

BTG is seeking actors ages 13 and up for BTG PLAYS! Magic Tree House 2026-27 Touring Show: The Knight at Dawn KIDS! ⚔️🐎

Auditions will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at 5pm at The Colonial Theatre. Registrations and appointments are required to audition, so please email Allison Rachele Bayles, Director of Education, at [email protected] to schedule an audition by Friday, August 28.
