We are Paint Monkey! We rented a studio at the Ice House Studios in December of 2011 and opened our doors for classes in March of 2012. When we began, everyone painted the same painting. One of our artists would guide you through the painting, step by step in a 2 or 3 hour session. You go home with your own masterpiece! We mostly still have everyone paint the same thing, but we encourage you to make it your own through colors or just by adding your own touch so you come away with a truly unique piece of art. They may all start out alike, but each painting is completely different at the end.
Little by little, our Paint Monkey experience evolved by us providing a sketch on the canvas. We found that there was a lot of anxiety about making it look just right. “I can’t draw a stick figure” and “I don’t have a creative bone in my body” were things we heard all the time. By putting a sketch on the canvas, people were able to relax a little, and just have fun with everything. We provide the canvas, brushes, paint, a creative atmosphere (we now have 2 locations - Lawrenceville and The Waterfront) and lots of encouragement. You bring a few friends, a bottle of wine and be ready for a really fun experience.
We still do primarily canvas painting, but we have branched out into some other things like painting on canvas tote bags, wine glasses, vases and, of course, our pour painting workshops. Check the calendar on our website for specific paintings and times. Classes daytime, evenings and weekends. Reservations are required for all classes with instruction (mostly evening). At our Waterfront studio we have walk in open studio hours from 11am - 5pm. No reservations required for these sessions. Walk in prices are $25+tax for a 16 x 20 canvas and $15+tax for smaller 12 x 12 canvases. Call for information about private parties and for Paint Monkey to come on site.
