Introducing our openers for this Friday at Longturn Presents: Weska! Check out more details on them all below as we get over the hump and ready for a stacked weekend ahead!
Khan Kuma (Top):
Pittsburgh native Drew Owusu, aka Khan Kuma, is deeply rooted in sound system culture.
Influenced by his Ghanaian heritage, bass-driven music flows through his veins. With an innate penchant for electronic genres rooted in black culture, Khan Kuma's journey as an artist was inevitable.
Inspired by heavyweight dubstep DJs like Joe Nice, Caspa, N-Type, Coki, and Ternion Sound, Khan Kuma forges a distinct sonic tapestry. His rapid mixing and seamless track blending bring an unparalleled energy to the dance floor, creating an immersive experience.
Sharing a part of himself with the crowd, Khan Kuma's sound is a vibrant fusion that captivates audiences.
This Friday he takes the stage at Sidequest for a rare techno set b2b with Koopmusik.
Koopmusik (Bottom Left):
Koopmusik, or Koop for short, is an emerging producer and DJ based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His passion for music and obsessive curiosity to explore the globe after college led him to countless clubs and festivals around the world, helping cultivate his characteristic sounds. Koopmusik draws heavy influences ranging from progressive & organic house to deep tech/minimal, indie dance, & melodic techno yet always balancing melody, emotion, and groove. Despite the broader range of melodic stylings, one thing for certain is Koopmusik doesn’t veer too far away from something that “thumps”.
Not seeing much change in his local scene over the years, Koopmusik decided to make that change happen with some friends in 2017 and bring the experiences he found worldwide to his hometown through his company, Longturn Music. Whether he’s putting on an event or playing a DJ set on stage, Koopmusik is always telling a story, making connections with the people around him, and helping them escape their reality, wishing it never had to end.
Deklora (Bottom Right):
Deklora began his musical journey as a drummer, receiving mentorship from Richard Kingera and Jim Donovan, the former drummer of Rusted Root and current lead musician of Jim Donovan & Sun King Warriors. His love for rhythm and sound propelled him into Pittsburgh's underground rave scene, where he started spinning Technics vinyl in 1999. Over the years, Deklora made the transition to digital formats, focusing on the intricate balance between pure House and pure Trance, where he believes true Progressive resides.
After captivating audiences at various venues across the city, including Acrisure stadium, Deklora found his niche in the nightlife scene, where his dark, deeply hypnotic sets create an emotional experience underpinned with mathematical precision. Drawing inspiration from his background in drumming, he crafts complex soundscapes using his own algorithmic summation calculation based on various powers of 2, resulting in thought provoking and immersive blends. With a passion for exploring the deep areas of true Progressive, Deklora invites his listeners on a journey that transcends the ordinary, showcasing the profound connection between emotion and sound. Emotion spread across seamless transitions is his forte.
